About me

Hello, I'm Alan, a bit of a forever GM, but I love it, so no complaints! I've been gaming since 2009, and I started with D&D 4th Edition. I knew a bunch of people that wanted to play, but had no experience, so I figured why not give it a shot myself, and here I am 14 years later (oof, that doesn't seem real...). I started with 4e and 3.5e, but quickly found Pathfinder 1e and I ran that for years before deciding to switch it up and branching out to other games. Since then, I've run both Mage: the Ascension and Mage: the Awakening, Scion 2nd Edition, Dresden Files, Exalted Third Edition and Essence, Feng Shui 2nd Edition, Legends of Anglerre, and most recently, Pathfinder 2e. Add in multiple one-shots in various other systems and the games I've been a player in and I have a large breadth of experience in a wide range of different systems. Feel free to reach out via messaging here, or on Discord at ffanxii4ever

GM Style

The players are the stars of the show - this means different things for different systems, of course, but in pretty much anything, it means that I want to see the players excel (in something like World of Darkness, that may mean the character is suffering, but the player shouldn't be). I started with crunchy, tactical games, and they have a special place in my heart, but I have run multiple games that use far more "theater of the mind" style systems. I also do like systems and mechanics that give a little bit of flexibility or narrative control to the PCs, either things built into the game like Exalted's stunting mechanic, or Trinity's Dramatic Editing, or even using and tweaking mechanics like Hero Points, to let it be more flexible than they be Rules-As-Written. Having a fun and entertaining game is infinitely more important to me than following some sort of strict adherence to the rules.
