How Dylan runs games

My Game Master Style My approach to being a Game Master is centered on cinematic, character-driven stories where your hero's journey is the heart of the narrative. For over a decade, I've specialized in guiding players from humble beginnings to becoming larger-than-life legends, with every hard-won victory and difficult choice shaping who they are. A Focus on Roleplay and Personal Story I believe that the most compelling adventures are those that are personal. I love to collaborate with players to weave their character's unique backstory, motivations, and goals directly into the main plot. To help bring these personal stories to life, I use flashbacks and in-character moments that give you a chance to explore your past and better understand who you are today. This isn't just about rolling dice; it's about creating a story that truly belongs to you. Dynamic and Tactical Combat While I love a good roleplaying scene, I also ensure that combat is engaging and meaningful. My opponents aren't just bags of hit points; they're intelligent (or instinctively cunning) adversaries who will use tactics and their environment to their advantage. A clever hobgoblin might try to flank you, while a feral wolf will use the terrain to corner its prey. I challenge players to think creatively and use their surroundings, making every battle a puzzle to be solved, not just a brawl to be won. A System for Every Story With experience in a vast library of systems—from Dungeons & Dragons and Pathfinder to Blades in the Dark and Vampire: The Masquerade—I can find the perfect ruleset to match the story we want to tell. My goal is always to create a smooth, exciting, and unforgettable experience tailored specifically for you and your group.

I deal with rules issues by...

Making a quick ruling based on game knowledge at the time, ensure that everyone feels its fair, and then look up the rule either during our break or post session, and then inform the group what I found

My favorite trope is...

Campfire Character Exploration. Whether its characters talking to each other and naturally learning more about each other at the end of a dangerous day, or even a moment of introspection of a lone character on watch. I love this trope because it brings so much depth to characters in a natural way.

My games focus on...

Stories where every day people rise to the occasion. No Heroes of destiny, but heroes of need. I find those stories so much more engaging and meaningful.

Dylan's ideal table

A group of players who are all onboard with engaging in RP that both drives the story, but also, and possibly more importantly drives the players connections to each other.

I am for a vibe that's...

Relaxed, knowns when a moment is serious, but also knows that moments of levity will always arise, even in the darkest of times if you are with your friends

I love it when a player

Engages another player or an NPC in a real moment of conversation. Not just "My character asks the bartender ....." but "I go up to the bar tender and say ____"

My table is not the place for...

Powergaming, Munchkins, Metagaming. It just doesnt work with the style of stories I like to tell.
