About Emily

I've been running and playing games for 35+ years, and prefer cinematic and fun stories versus full on combat focus and playing RAW. I started with games like Toon and Teenage Mutant turtle and Tunnels & Trolls, moved to GURPS, Earthdawn, Legend of the Five Rings, and 7th Sea in the 90's and up to mid 00's, and then Savage Worlds, FATE, and Indie RPGS after that. You will see cats in the background if I have my camera on! They have only knocked my laptop to the ground in a single game. Can you make my cat do it again? I like to make sure everyone gets a chance for the spotlight and to focus on the things they want their character engaged in. the games I run are co-op. not PVP as the fun you are having should not take away from the enjoyment of others. I see my job both as to weave the world around the characters actions which drive where the action goes. I love a good long campaign with a lot of character progression, but I also enjoy zany one shots where what happens after this one story does not matter. I really like having the NPCs having their own lives and personalities, and breathing life into them. a specialty of mine is often creating deep and distinct NPC's in a moments notice. I am more of a lenient GM than a strict one, and for the games that it fit's the scenario and world, making sure everyone has a pun-derful time. I don't like PVP combat, and will make that expectation known upfront. I am very new player friendly.

I got started GMing...

I started running and playing back in 1987 when I visited the local game store at the time, Dream Wizards. My first games were Toon, Tunnel and Trolls, and TMNT. I was hooked from the beginning and been doing this since then and it has been one of the foundational things throughout my life.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Imaginative Collaborative Hilarious

When I'm not running games I'm...

Hanging out with friends, curled up with my cats and a book, video gaming late into the night, writing or doing art for my next project.

How Emily runs games

I love roleplay and character interaction and growth. I tend to be combat light with one or two combats at maximum a session, but I can can be adaptable. I've even run games of 4th edition Dungeons and Dragons without any combat so it depends more on player desire than system. I prefer running intrigue and political interactions, wandering exploration games, comedy like Toon, or intrigue. I don't like PVP combat, and will make sure that is on my descriptions, as I play my games as co op focused. It might be you and the other players versus the world, but I want the other characters you are with to not be a danger to you. My focus is making sure every player is having fun and get to experience the types of things their characters wants. If combat occurs I like it quick. If my players want tactical Savage Worlds is my go to game for that (but its also good at combat lite if desired through use of their optional rules). If you know, tell me what you what you enjoy in games, and I can work it in. My job is too make sure everyone is having fun as long as your fun isn't about taking away the other player's fun., and to make the rest of the world come alive for everyone through descriptions, NPCS, and the interactions themselves. I also like to home brew worlds and systems in a way that mechanics add to the flavor of what is being played, and to adapt systems to favorite Stories, shows, videogames, anime, etc.

I once ran a session...

where players made themselves in a dark supernatural game, and started play as themselves. As the game progressed however players would hand there sheet to the person to the right of them, so others played them with time based off what they saw before, or if they knew them in real life.

Rules are...

A good guideline for where the game should go, but flexibility is important to keep tings fast and fun at the table. Changes to the rules should be disclosed up front, and rulings should be consistent. It is the game of the GM and the players, so should be altered if needed.

When it comes to voices

a lot of my NPC's will have unique voices and styles of speaking, or at least unique in that game world. Sometimes its just cadence or tone, sometimes accent or pitch, but many of of the characters in my worlds have unique voices and styles of speaking.

Emily's ideal table

My table is a fun safe place for players where everyone gets a chance to have the fun they want. Even if it's a horror game I want to make sure everyone is enjoying themselves. I don't always run game with light themes (i can enjoy running horror games) but the player focus is in those too. I do not run PVP, and I ma best for those who prefer intrigue/adventure/court politics, slice of life, vs primarily combat.
