About mudge

I’m mudge, and I don’t just run D&D; I craft stories where you are the hero, not just a participant. Every session is built around your choices, your character, your story. The goal isn’t just to win battles or level up; it’s to make you feel like the adventure changes you as much as it changes the world around you. With 3,000+ hours on Roll20 and 1,000+ hours on Foundry, I use every trick these platforms offer, from dynamic maps and lighting to interactive encounters, to make the world feel alive and reactive. But the real magic happens at the table: your decisions, your growth, your triumphs become the story, not just something you watch unfold. If you want a game where the stakes feel real, the story hits hard, and your character’s journey becomes something you’ll never forget, that’s the kind of game I run. You don’t play the story; you live it.

I became a GM because

I had wanted to play DND for years before I ever actually started, and I could never find anyone to GM, so I decided to GM my first game, and I am glad I did, DND is a creative outlet I had been wanting and needing all my life!

My favorite shows/movies are

Tombstone is my favorite movie, and Star Trek: The Next Generation is my favorite TV show. I'm not normally a western kind of person, but something about Tombstone is just special. TNG was tackling complex social issues decades before they were in the spotlight.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

I would like to think they'd say that I was: - Creative - Dedicated - Adaptable

How mudge runs games

I run a balanced mix of combat and roleplay, roughly 50/50. Some sessions lean more into RP, others into combat, but I aim for an even experience overall. ➤ Expect many voices and accents. ➤ Unique custom items, enemies, and mechanics, all challenging and rewarding. ➤ Puzzles are a big part of the game, so bring your thinking caps. ➤ Strong use of Foundry VTT modules. Feedback is highly valued and encouraged.

I deal with rules issues by...

The Jeremy Crawford rule. It's actually kind of impressive how many commonly misunderstood or contested rules he's weighed in on. I find that his takes are usually really well measured and thought out. In the off chance that there is no JC ruling on something, I default to the rule of cool/fun.

My favorite trope is...

Fireball. Enter a room? Fireball immediately. More than 2 enemies near each other? Time for Fireball. Dark room no one can see into? You know what provides (brief) light? Fireball.

When it comes to voices

I really enjoy doing voices myself and I make an effort to make all major NPC's have a unique speaking style, cadence, and accent. My view on players doing voice: Its fun if you want but no real pressure if you don't. You play how you want :)

mudge's ideal table

It's a relaxed mood. Jokes, puns, and meme references are welcome. I feel like I do a good job at balancing very grim and serious moments with light hearted and silly moments. Also all kinds of people with all sorts of different life experiences are welcomed.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

Hombrew. I love to homebrew. Monsters, spells, feats, items, systems. Whether it be just creating new stuff or improving existing things, I really like to come up with fun and challenging content.

I love it when a player

I love when a player interacts with players in-character. I can set a scene, describe a dark cave, evoke the terror of a giant beast, but if the players don't really get along the game can easily fall flat. I love when people collaborate eagerly!

I think metagaming...

A small amount of metagaming is so natural it's almost expected if you ask me. "Hey remember you got that feat that lets you do X" is perfectly fine. But spending 5 minutes to suggest an entire round's worth of actions step-by-step to maximize efficiency? Maybe a little too much.
