About Javiel
I've been a "Forever GM" for about ten years. I started with D&D 5e, running Hoard of the Dragon Queen, for a group of 5. Since then, I've had a game running at almost all times, including analog 'round the table games and games in Tabletop Simulator, a year-long play-by-post campaign on Telegram, and running a homebrew version of an Adventure League, in which a myself and other GMs run 2-4 hour one-shots for groups of friends. In addition to D&D5e, I've started running Mothership one-shots and will soon be running Wildsea. I love GM'ing! I love engaging with players where they want to be met. My games tend to have hints of silliness or absurdity, but I'm just as excited "Yes, and" a player's hopes for their character. I believe that players have the most fun when they're able to engage with the game and each other in their own way, and I love helping make that happen. I'm also a big fan of board games. My favorites are Ark Nova, Gloomhaven, Moonrakers, and Blood on the Clocktower.

How Javiel runs games
I enjoy making a few complex, motivated, and developed antagonists and friends for the players to interact with, as much as I enjoy making weird, off-the-cuff NPCs for the characters to interact with in relaxed or silly ways. I like making the world fair, and I think a lived-in world, a world in which there are consequences to actions, makes for an exciting environment. I love making challenging combat encounters, contrasting making difficult decisions with rewarding creative solutions and critical thinking. I am not one to do voices or accents - we can't all be voice actors! I also will not run games with PVP combat, but there may be opportunities for players to play against each other in some ways. I also feel fairness between characters is very important. As a result, I will usually keep an eye on balance and encourage players to reconsider decisions that will discourage group enjoyment.

My favorite trope is...
people working together to face a threat and pulling through by working hard, thinking strategically, and being willing to take risks. I'm not a fan of "chosen one" tropes!
Rules are...
there to make sure everything is balanced. Balance is there to make things fun. Rules are also worth breaking if they get in the way of the group's fun!
When it comes to voices
I'm no good - please don't expect any voice acting. I promise I'll make up for it by having a world worth interacting with!
Javiel's ideal table
My table is silly, supportive, and rewarding. Players who do well at my table will be able to laugh at the absurdity of a situation or character just as easily as using a detail of the world to their advantage. I love crafting settings and situations that are challenging, but navigable. I also absolutely love letting people do things as long as they're willing to accept the consequences of those actions - those games are just as, if not more, fun!

I love it when a player
remembers a detail and uses it to break through a challenge.
I think it's a red flag when players...
try to play or control each other's characters. Don't use other players and their characters as means to an end!
I think min/maxing...
is boring! A bad roll isn't failure, it's a role-play opportunity. When characters aren't perfect, they're interesting.
