About Matt Whittlesey
I first stayed playing D&D when a group of friends and I found the Starter Kit and dived into Phandelver. Since then I have spent the last 5-6 years running games as a DM for small groups of two up to a weekend event of a dozen players. I've always wanted to be a Game Designer and Voice Actor, so I get engrossed in the worlds we create or emulate and try to bring each character to life as best as I can. Since Covid I have also started learning to run online game via FoundryVTT and thoroughly enjoy the program and its capabilities and recently have started delving into the mechanics of Daggerheart.

I became a GM because
I've always had a fascination with creating stories, whether it be writing something, drawing something or just imagining it. I've always wanted to be involved in Game Design, Voice Acting and classic Acting because I love to immerse myself in an environment.
My favorite books are
The Lost Years of Merlin by T.A. Baron, The Black Prism series by Brent Weeks and the Shannara series by Terry Brooks are my top two notables. I also love Sci-Fi series along with Fantasy, as well as Arabian Desert inspired stories of sand and magic.
The three words my players would use to describe me are...

How Matt Whittlesey runs games
I like to have a mixture of roleplay and combat within my games and have grown accustomed to using the Milestone progression for leveling as a result, as a great many things can be decided beyond just fighting for their lives. I like to use voices for all my NPCs and bring them to life as much as possible.

I once ran a session...
That took two days, starting in the morning and ending at night, with a group of 10-14 people who were assailing a fortress from different directions. Half or more of the group was playing for the first time, so helped create 6+ characters in an hour or so.
Rules are...
An excellent guideline and fluid in some areas, but ultimately it does fall onto the GM to decide where they stand on it.
When it comes to voices
I enjoy doing them, whether they are good or not is debatable.
Matt Whittlesey's ideal table
My favorite table has people who are involved with the world and their fellow players, even if they prefer to lean more towards combat or intrigue or social shenanigans, they are still present for everything and gives everyone their moment to shine or helps make it happen.

I am for a vibe that's...
Relaxed, yet involved, with openness to silliness, horror, emotional moments, glory and every emotion in between.
I think metagaming...
Is a natural occurrence at tables, especially if there is using a system that has been played for years, but the real magic comes from balance and not allowing too much of one's personal knowledge to bleed into their character's knowledge.
I think min/maxing...
Is a style of play that some people really enjoy, although as a GM it just gives me a reason to bring out more challenging obstacles for the characters to face.
