About JDtheST

I'm JD. I've been an avid player of TTRPGs since 1990, and have been running them since way back when. I have been using Roll20 since 2019, and have been a professional DM since 2022. I am a husband and father, with a background in live theater. I have taught literally hundreds of people to play a variety of games, and am looking forward to doing the same for you. In addition to Dungeons & Dragons 5e, I also run the 20th Anniversary Edition of White Wolf Game Studio's classic World of Darkness games, Scion 1st edition, Exalted 2nd edition, and several others available on request. Some of my games focus on mature themes. Some are more light-hearted, and are kid friendly (PUGMIRE is a great game for kids 10 and up!). Session 0 is always free, and is where a group will discuss the expectations of the group, and establish the tone of our games.

I got started GMing...

in high school. My buddies and I would order a stack of pizzas and game all weekend. We started out with AD&D, Robotech, and Heroes Unlimited. I discovered Vampire the Masquerade when 1st Edition came out, and fell in love with the World of Darkness. Been there ever since.

How JDtheST runs games

I prefer a game with well rounded characters, strong storytelling and roleplay, and cinematic combat scenes. I enjoy playing with people who throw themselves into the story. And I have always loved teaching new players to love throwing themselves into the story.

Rules are...

how we keep the game fair. I know the rules, and apply them equally to everyone. That said, when you come up with something they don't cover, we can figure it out on the fly.

When it comes to voices

I don't do much in the way of funny voices. But you will always know who's talking to you. A streetwise pickpocket has a wildly different vocabulary and manner of speech than a stuffy noble or a tavern keeper trying to keep you and your friends from trashing his bar.

JDtheST's ideal table

I enjoy a good spirited table where the players think their way through the challenges presented. If your first option is to hit the NPC, this might not be the best fit. There will be humor at my table, yes. But most of the time, that is above board. My games tend to be dark, creepy, and atmospheric. A laugh to ease the tension is one thing.
