About me

About me Well met, adventurers. Have a seat and let’s share a tale. My name is Greg and I have over forty years of experience behind the DM screen. I have loved this game since a much younger version of myself sat in a public school cafeteria and rolled dice and played in an old school dungeon crawl. Through the years, I have honed my craft and added skills, tools and insight checks until I have become a very proficient DM. Yeah, some might call me old…er, though, I prefer seasoned and experienced. I run games on discord, roll20 and face to face. I am just entering the foray into the world of professional DMing. I run various games from my own crafted world setting to modules straight from WOTC, though, to be honest, I prefer home brewed. My games are both tolerant and inclusive. I start with a session zero, where we all make characters, create inter party connections, and discuss the ‘why’s of your character’s decision to become an adventurer. I have a tool for connecting characters for new players or players who may not have a good reason developed. I also have a consent form, I send to my players, so we can discuss (in private) what is out of bounds for you as a player. A no is a no, and no questions are asked. If there is an aspect of the game from Ants to Zealots that you don’t want in your game, you will have the opportunity to declare if a variety of topics get an enthusiastic thumbs up, are something you would prefer to be veiled or discussed beforehand or if something or things on the list is or are a hard no. If it is a hard no, then we will not be discussing it, I will just remove it from the game. I will tell everyone the outcomes of the consent sheet before starting, so we are all on the same sheet before continuing (Note: each ‘no’ will be anonymous). My GM style: I believe the best games of D&D I’ve had the honor or running, are places where friends can gather, and share in a story telling experience. Each character has a role to play, and it is my ‘job’ to provide the setting/worldbuilding, conflicts and wide varieties of NPCs to interact with from start to finish. I don’t believe in plot driven games, but rather, consequence driven play. I don’t plan my games based on plot points (although, everyone has an agenda, right?). Is there a spooky castle over the rise, shrouded in mist and surrounded by thickets of thorny vines? Yes. Do you have to go there? Nope. I may add incentives, like: the towns folk are claiming their children are going missing and the woods warden has noticed on her most recent scouting of the area, a single child’s shoe in the thickets near the abandoned castle. Again, as the PCs, you might have other pressing items on your personal agendas and just pass on by. This is fine. But, there might be consequences associated with either decision: investigating the castle or going on to the next town. Sometimes those consequences don’t even manifest themselves until much later, if ever. My main goal as a DM is to provide the potential for content in each game and to roll with the decisions made by the players as seamlessly as possible, while weaving together an interesting tale, driven by the PC’s decisions and the decisions of numerous NPCs, known and unknown.

GM Style

I love TTRPGs. I am excellent at various character voices. I have run campaigns with as many as 9 players, in tactical, crunchy games. But mostly, I am flexible. I tend to mold my games to the expectations of the group (This is all part of the session zero where we identify player expectations). I personally prefer a solid mix of roleplay to combat (leaning slightly towards more roleplaying over combat).
