About GM Becky
Hi, I’m Becky! I’m a queer working parent, a homeschool mom, a full-time software team leader, a writer, and a sometimes-baker of sourdough bread. In other words, I thrive on flexibility, creativity, and making something great out of chaos! I’m a longtime tabletop game player who moved into GMing for the same reason many GMs do: a table of excited players needed someone to run their game, so I stepped up to meet the need. After running one-shots for my family and paid games here on StartPlaying, I’m hooked on that behind-the-screen life! I’m excited to keep facilitating stories and helping my players make amazing memories together. In all areas of my life, my philosophy is the same: 💖 meet people where they are; 💖 create a welcoming space to help new folks learn; 💖 be open to feedback; 💖 treat everyone with respect; and, 💖 make sure each person is included. My tables are beginner-friendly and welcoming to LGBTQA+, BIPOC, and disabled players. I am continuously learning better ways to make my games as accessible as possible. 🤖 I am working on eliminating Gen AI from my games! Some of the art I previously sourced from third parties may still have Gen AI components -- I am reviewing the art I have in place now and weeding out AI-generated elements when I find them. I am also no longer using Gen AI for written game components -- my narratives might be more organic and less "polished", but they are human-made! 🐌 Rad Snail Storyworks is my little corner of the creative multiverse. No matter who you are or how long you have (or haven’t!) played TTRPGs, you’re welcome here. Let’s go adventuring together!

I got started GMing...
...because of that age-old dilemma: we want to play D&D but we don't have a DM! :) Leading teams and facilitating a collaborative group effort is a role that seems to find me wherever I go, and gaming is no different!
When I'm not running games I'm...
When I'm not playing games, I'm homeschooling my kiddo, making art, parenting a Great Dane who believes he is a lapdog, and looking forward to my next trip to the bakery for a fresh croissant.
How GM Becky runs games
At the table, my role is: 🟣 To ensure that table culture is safe and supportive for all, with clear boundaries and communication; 🟣 To make “toys” for my players to interact with: NPCs, encounters, puzzles, and plot-drivers; 🟣 To facilitate interactions that enable my players to make decision to move their story forward; 🟣 To roll with the surprises my players give me and make the most of them to create a unique adventuring experience; and, 🟣 To have fun alongside my players! My style is designed around a flexible structure that allows for open-ended decision-making. I believe the story and adventure belongs to you, the player, with my expert guidance along the way to help you achieve the outcome you’re looking for. Here’s what to expect in my games: 0️⃣ Strong Session Zeros Session 0 is the most important session of the entire campaign. I use a time-tested structure and communication model that helps establish a healthy table culture from day one. 🎲 Fair Play I don’t fudge dice, and I prefer to keep my rolls visible as much as possible. Your victories are all yours. When you beat my big bad, I’ll celebrate with you! 🗺 Engaging maps for combat and exploration I use Foundry VTT to build maps and share visuals. 🎭 A healthy dose of Theatre of the Mind Sometimes the multimedia effects get in the way of good old-fashioned storytelling. I love spotlighting key moments for Theatre of the Mind to allow players to marinate in the story in the way only your own imagination can. ⭐️ Both RAW (rules as written) and ROC (rule of cool) I lean on the rules to build an effective container for the story, but I’m open to a ROC ruling for a creative solution if it will make for a great addition to the story for all players. Game rules are meant to facilitate the fun, but they can also be bent for the good of the adventure!
