About me

The adventure began when I spied a crinkled Dungeons & Dragons character sheet peeking out from one of my student's spiral ring notebooks. A flood of memories came washing over me as I flashed back to the halcyon days of middle school; those days of yore, when I would gather in my basement with friends for epic quests and inside jokes that would echo down through the ages. Two decades had passed since I last picked up my d20. How had I gone so long ignoring my true calling? I was born to be a Dungeon Master! Whether advising my middle school D&D club, spinning campaigns for friends old and new, or welcoming you to my table at Start Playing Games, I have a passion for the unique alchemy of creativity and camaraderie that only a tabletop role-playing game can conjure. Let's get dungeon crawling and dragon slaying!

GM Style

I am a character driven Game Master. This means that character actions and decisions drive the campaign. Villains will be plotting behind the scenes and tantalizing quests will come your way, but the ultimate direction of the campaign is up to your and your adventuring companions. I strive to create an atmosphere that emulates the feeling of sitting around a table with your friends, spinning epic tales. I use theater of the mind and simple and intutive tabletop programs like Owlbear Rodeo for combat. You can expect battles to be challenging and tactical, but without the need to interact with a clunky online interface. I do voices both sinister and silly, but I'm not a professional actor, and you're not expected to be either. You should feel comfortable to inhabit your character in whatever way that feels best to you. I'm a master of the rules, but not a rules lawyer. I love teaching the game to new players and you can jump into one of my games with nothing but a passion to play, and I'll have you adventuring within minutes. Most of all, I love crafting a cinematic experience that will thrill and surprise.
