About al
I'm here for collaborative storytelling and world-building. I aim to create a welcoming space for players to try new things, have fun and share our enthusiasm for RPGs. From hunting vampires to becoming vampires, I'll lead your characters on a fulfilling journey and we'll spin a good yarn together. I love to introduce beginners to ttrpgs and new games. I try a lot of new games myself so I am very familiar with how it feels to learn something new. I hope I'm able to help my players delight in learning games. My background includes training people at work and writing instructions. Helping people play games is a fun way to use that skill set. I've been organizing a TTRPG meetup for 6 years focused on creating a welcoming space for marginalized gamers. I helped guide the group to be open to all genders. Running the group really helps me to see how to create a supportive environment for marginalized people and how that environment supports the larger community. The biggest game I ever ran was a 20 person West Marches campaign. That game honed my communication and organization skills and certainly helped me to negotiate tricky situations between players. Making people feel welcome and comfortable in this amazing TTRPG space is my primary goal.

I got started GMing...
because I wanted to learn different game systems. I learned how to GM by teaching people I didn't yet know how to play games at a local gaming group. I made friends with some of those people and brought other friends into TTRPGs but I still enjoy teaching new games to new people.
How al runs games
We're telling a story together. I begin with a session zero where everyone will describe what they want out of the game and set ground rules. We'll fill out a palette document to confirm what elements we do and do not want to see in game. Then, we begin our story. I facilitate role play and encourage players to add to the world we are building together. I run games of rulings rather than exhaustive rules. I'll provide consistent rulings and direct communication so you know what to expect. I want you to relax and have fun. The narrative should surprise you and I hope you surprise yourself but my rulings shouldn't surprise you. My games often have a dark tone with plenty of comic relief, or they lean into cosmic absurdity.
