About me

Hello, and thank you for considering me as your GM. I look forward to telling many stories together. My name is Mick (Short for a very uniquely spelled name that comes up WAY too easily on Google haha!) but all my friends call me Kaiser. My timezone is Eastern Time (GMT -5). Although I am often available late into the night. My preferred game times are between Noon and 7PM Eastern Monday-Thursday for live play, although I am open to other times upon request. I have over 15 years of experience in text-based roleplay as both a player and a Game Master/Writer. I was introduced to TTRPG around 8 years ago, got seriously into it, and started as a Dungeon Master 5 years ago. Two of my campaigns have gone on for nearly as long! "Lost Mines of Phandelver" and "Out of the Abyss" are not your usual 4-year games, but we found that there were always new frontiers to continue our story. Play-by-post TTRPG is a very recent interest of mine, but I hope to bring together my years of practice in both these fields to a great experience for my players. I have a research background in history, ancient theology, myths, and legends, as well as a lot of experience in fantasy and science fiction writing. So for me, the most important parts of roleplay and being a Dungeon Master are not the dice rolls and character sheets (Although there is plenty of that) It is the spinning of a narrative, either full-throated fantasy, or grounded historical fiction, with political intrigue, mystery, and drama mixed in to make the best experience. As a DM, my focus lies primarily on Play-By-Text or Play-By-Post games. However, my longest-running campaigns are in live voice format on Discord and Roll20. I typically charge more for the creation of your personal experience in the form of 1-3 Session 0.5 type sessions where we can meet, go over expectations, and brainstorm or workshop exactly what you want before your story kicks off on session 1! How many players you want in your personal campaign or one-shot can also effect pricing greatly, as the per-session price will be lowered for more people, than a single or duo. I have extensive experience in Roll20 combat and maps, Voice using discord, and even music using Syrinscape or Roll20's built in music and sound effect player. I am open to using other VTTs but may need time to learn them if you desire their use. If they require a buy-in to play I may ask to add that cost, or a portion of it to your pricing. I primarily run D&D 5E, and Fantasy settings, but for your custom game no setting is completely off-limits, and I am not against using a different system if you want to work together to make stories using it. However, if the system you desire requires purchased material that can not be avoided, I may ask to add that cost, or a portion of it to your pricing. Settings I like include Sci-fi, punk both cyber and steam, historical fiction, high fantasy, and urban zombie, or vampire settings. All games and additional pricing will go through SPG or SPG gift cards!

GM style

As a Dungeon Master my style is pretty laid-back. While I take my responsibilities seriously and I am committed to the service I am providing and my mission to bring fun and narrative drama to my players. I am in it to have fun as much as you are and subscribe more to the "Rule of cool" than anything else. I am rooting for you, not only to have fun, but to succeed. I am not afraid to bend the rules or homebrew something to make for an epic journey filled with heroism, an intense thrilling adventure, a classical folkloric tale, or a survival horror slog. Here is a visual indication of my DM style. Your opinion matters though. My favorite genre of TTRPG is a good folkloric tale where the hero investigates the origins of a monster or entity discovering how to diffuse the situation or slay the beast. Think the witcher games! For combat I subscribe to "The Monsters know what they are doing" by Keith Ammann method of motivation and tactics, preferring roleplay reasons for why a monster or enemy will choose its target even deep into VTT combat. For roleplay I subscribe to a different philosophy. That is "The roleplayers like what they like" If something is not comfortable for you, or you felt like you wanted more of something in your experience, you can always come to me, and speak candidly. If you are a solo then I can cater to your interests personally. If you are a group, as long as everyone can agree to compromise on wishes, lines and veils we can go far together! I am part of the BIMPOC community of writers, and gamers. My table is LGBTQIA+, BIMPOC, and Neurodivergent friendly. My players will always have a safe space at my table with safety resources available as well as an empathetic and open ear from me. All are welcome and I do not discriminate, even if you think you might have some negative views or a difficult time communicating I won't dismiss your very real feelings and experiences.
