About the adventure

*This is a one-shot intro game to become familiar with the Dissolutionverse RPG system. If you know how to play, try out the full campaign! The Dissolutionverse is connected to William's published works--an intergalactic society of ten homeworlds connected not by spaceflight but by music-based magic. People can step from world to world, but only when a portal is created by one of the maji, those very few people who can hear the Symphony underlying the universe. When a majus changes the notes of the Symphony, reality changes with it. Maji are incredibly important to the economy of the ten species, which places them high in the government of the ten homeworlds. That government is located in the Nether, an immense hollow crystal the size of a planet to which all the homeworlds connect by portal. As with every civilization where there are those that have more, there are always those that have not. The Dissolutionverse focuses less on violent conflict, and more on exploring the conflict between the maji and common people, and between those with and those without. As a majus, you have the ability to change reality itself, at the cost of the notes of your soul. But you have less time to hone your other skills. As a non-majus, you have a variety of useful skills and hobbies that might give you advantages in certain situations. The Dissolutionverse RPG is focused on detailed worldbuilding, problem solving, character backstories, and getting into why characters do what they do. There is less combat than in many game systems, with more emphasis on storytelling and societal conflict rather than martial (though there will still be bad guys to punch/kick/stab/etc). If you're tired of rolling dice for hours in turn-based combat, try out this 4d8 push-your-luck dice mechanic with an emphasis on character building. Take your failures and turn them on their heads to lead to new edge-of-your-seat play! William loves the "yes, and" style play and will try never to shut down a player's imagination. The real joy of the game is finding what new opportunity is created in a botched dice roll! Your group may be called on to search out interesting artifacts, find new types of creatures, rescue highly placed people or even investigate them. There may be conflict between the maji and those who vastly outnumber them, as well as conflict between the ten species of the assembly as they tend to their own agendas while trying to create a better whole for the Great Assembly of Species. William uses fun characters, voices, and new places to explore with morally gray characters. If this sounds like a good time, sign up for the Dissolutionverse RPG!

How to prepare

1) Webcam and mic are required. If you do not want to use video, that is ok, but it is recommended so players can see reactions and react accordingly to best avoid misunderstanding between players. Some people do better responding to facial expressions or are hearing impaired. 2) 4 d8 dice 3) Make sure you have Zoom downloaded beforehand (https://zoom.us/download) 4) I will send player sheets and instructions to all players before the session. You can print them out or use them on your computer.

What I provide

The Dissolutionverse is a universe of my own making, which I have slowly been expanding over the past five or six years. I have literally spent years looking at the mechanics of how things work, and I have written three novels, four novelettes, and numerous short stories, as well as a handful of campaigns inside the Dissolutionverse. I've also voiced all the audiobooks for the series. I'm looking to flesh it out even more, though! This is still a playtest game, so it's possible rules will change between sessions, or even during a session, based on player feedback. You're part of the creation because I want to make this as fun as possible for everyone playing. I'll bring my knowledge of the universe with all its fantastical nooks and steampunk crannies, if you bring your willingness to dive in and explore the ten homeworlds! If this sounds fun, join in!

Gameplay details

The Dissolutionverse is a very diverse and inclusive environment where people can be whomever they want. You will encounter LGBTQIA+ content, POC, people with disabilities, trans and non-binary people, and more. Ask for pronouns, be kind, and if we run into a problem, we will rewind and assess how to best continue. Offenders will be asked not to schedule more games. I do not tolerate: homophobia, transphobia, racism, harassment (verbal, visual, sexual, or other). Safety Tools used: Open Door policy, X, N, and O cards.

How will character creation work

For this playtest game, I will send out materials in advance. You are free to start creating your character, but we will also assess to make sure all the characters are created successfully together when we start. This may take 30 minutes or more of the first session for that and basic rules explanations.

Players can expect
