    How to prepare

    You do not need to have read the rules ahead of time as they will be explained during character creation and during our first play session. A mic is required. A webcam is optional.

    What I provide

    D&D Beyond character options, character sheets, maps, and digital dice via the AboveVTT extension for your browser (Edge/Chrome/Firefox).

    Gameplay details

    The sessions will be run in a lighthearted and easygoing manner. We will decide during session 0 how gritty we'd like combat to be, so that a suspenseful and thrilling fight does not smother joy and delight. Any other expectations will also be hashed out during session 0. And for safety, we will state our lines (content we don't want appearing in the game) and veils (content we don't want described graphically). At any point during the game, if something being said makes you feel unsafe, you are encouraged to say "Pause" and we will rewind and re-describe what's happening in the story. Combat will be a mix of theater of the mind and maps & tokens, with the former for simple combat setups, and the latter for dungeon crawling and official maps. To ensure a fun and exciting experience for all, players are encouraged to inhabit their characters while working as a team, and doing what's best for the story. I will be generous in dishing out Inspiration points, so don't be afraid to roleplay your character's flaws or to think outside of the box during combat encounters. Advancement will be story based, and at the end of the adventure, characters will reach level 5 (so, players will be playing at levels 1 to 4 throughout the adventure). A note about the adventure: In the original Dragon Heist adventure, there were four seasons to pick from, each corresponding to a different villain or set of villains. Therefore, the adventure was built to be able to run four times. However, a few of the chapters remain unchanged, and were they to be run again, the elements of surprise and novelty would've been dulled, and the new storylines in this campaign addresses that. Having said that, you don't need to have played the original adventure, since this isn't a sequel, but more of an alternate set of storylines. Which means that you could always play the original adventure after experiencing this campaign. If you've played this adventure before, just let me know which season you played in (or villain you encountered), so that we can select a season or villain that you have yet to experience.

    How will character creation work

    Characters will begin at level 1 and we will create them together during session 0. Character backstories will also be discussed together, so that suitable backgrounds are chosen and that each backstory reflects the character's relationship with one or more factions in the city, friendly NPCs, fellow party members, and other elements of the city such as guilds or noble families. This will make the campaign more engaging and helps cement the party's cohesiveness.
