About the adventure

"Metal Squadron, you're up. The simulators are open and waiting!" Welcome to War Games, pilot! You've gotten this far, now it's time to put all that training to the test. As part of the Union Navy Mechanized Cavalry initiation process, you will be put up against program alumni to test your skills, knowledge, grit, and cunning in the field of battle. Lancers, the cream of the crop of mech pilots, have been made in these sims time and again. Maybe more will be made today. Maybe it could be you. === Hello! This is a game strictly for new players to the Lancer RPG system! A very low-investment game, this will consist of a single combat encounter with some narrative play at the beginning and end. Designed as a tutorial to get you up to speed, no experience is necessary to join! I provide a safe, welcoming environment for players to grow and nourish wonderful stories, as well as have fun with tactical, high-stakes combat. Expect great immersion with a well-configured VTT, ambience and music, roleplay, and more!

Additional Details

How to prepare

Have the following in advance: - COMP/CON Account (compcon.app) - ForgeVTT Account (forge-vtt.com) - Discord Account (discord.gg) - A copy of the free Lancer rules PDF (https://massif-press.itch.io/corebook-pdf-free) It will be assumed that players have no knowledge of the game rules during play, so reading the book is not strictly necessary. Once again, a good mic and internet connection are requested, but a webcam is not necessary.

What I provide

- A feature-rich VTT (FoundryVTT), including all elements needed for play - All required content packs - All allowed expansion books (read-only) - An excellent, curated game soundtrack for all expected moments (and even some unexpected ones) - Custom Retrograde tokens, made to specifications - A Voice Changer, as needed - Exciting and dynamic detailed and/or tactical maps

Gameplay details

Players can expect a quick 30-minute Session 0 to go over basic rules and mechanics prior to jumping into game. Lines and veils as well as character creation will occur in the week leading up to the game. Do not worry too much about depth: consider this a tutorial session, where opportunities to flesh out characters will come later. X, N, and O cards can be used via the chat feature of Foundry or Discord (simply type out which card you are using), or they can be verbalized (spoken) via the following: - "X-ray Charlie" stands for an X Card. This will stop the game outright and we will either discuss or take a break, as desired by the person who played the X Card. - "November Charlie" stands for an N card. This will alert the GM to a desire to change some aspect of the scene. This can be verbalized or typed at the player's discretion. - "Oscar Charlie" stands for an O card. This is a chance to confirm with everyone whether they are good to continue with a scene, giving everyone a chance to speak up if needed. To confirm, any affirmative response is sufficient (yes, yeah, yep). To deny, meaning that something is making a player uncomfortable, any negative or uncertain response is sufficient (no, nope, uhhhh). Post-game, a very informal debrief will occur in the form of some space to chat about the game, as well as some Stars and Wishes either verbally or sent through messaging. A good quality mic and internet connection is requested, but a webcam is not necessary for this game. This will be a voice chat game with the possibility of text chat interactions through both Discord and Foundry.

How will character creation work

Character creation will occur through COMP/CON, the Lancer companion app. This will be done in the week leading up to the game, and assistance and resources will be provided where possible. If necessary, players can arrive early to the session and let me know that they would like some additional help with character creation. Characters are expected to be up and coming Union Navy mech pilots, training to achieve their certifications. Content allowed (this will be explained): - Core Book - Operation Solstice Rain (Chomolungma Frame) - No Room for a Wallflower (Sagarmatha Frame)

Players can expect

  • Combat/Tactics: High
  • Roleplay: Medium
  • Puzzles: Low
