About the adventure

New York is a city of roughly 8.5 Million people. They work, they live, they laugh, they cry, and they play out a million little stories on the daily that virtually no one will ever see or know. Scattered amongst the many faces of the city, often blending in with them so seamlessly that the outside world is ignorant of them, are The Others. They're the legends parents warned of in the Old Countries to keep children out of the woods. They're the horrors that populate our darkest movies and dreams. They're the living whispers on the edge of the modern world, and they put the lie to the notion that humans are the top of the food chain. As a member of the community of Others in NYC, you exist with one foot in the daytime world of dollars and drudgery, and one foot in the nighttime world of powerplays and politics. Guard your heart, keep your wits about you, and remember: in the world of The Others, nothing comes for free.

How to prepare

Players will need a microphone and a quiet space to play in! Cameras are optional. Players should take a look at different Archetype playbooks and decide which interests them most, but be willing to compromise when character creation begins. All character creation tools will be provided by me! Players should be prepared for a game where NPC-PC relationships are more transactional than in something like D&D; characters may like, love, or hate one another, but that won't change what people owe and don't owe. With the Other Community, the bill *always* comes due.

What I provide

I bring the pdf ruleset for the game (including expansions) as well as a reliable game set in a world that responds to your actions in surprising and engaging ways. I also provide tailored storytelling for player characters alongside a setting that feels alive. My games benefit from both my experience as a storyteller as well as my patience as an open educator of new players. If you're at all curious about the game, I encourage you to give it a go!

Gameplay details

Urban Shadows is a dark Urban Fantasy game where players take on the roles of different monsters, supernatural beings, and humans initiated into the world of the supernatural. Players are entering a dangerous and highly-political underworld, and this means that we will stumble into tense situations and dark themes. Expect something tonally somewhere between John Wick, Game of Thrones, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Prior to starting, all players will complete a Consent Checklist to ensure that everyone is comfortable with topics on the table. Session Zero will allow us to discuss themes, tones, and character creation, and then the use of Lines and Veils will allow us to steer clear of sentitive or harmful topics during play.

How will character creation work

Character creation, like in many PBTA games, is a collaborative effort done at the table together. The first portion of Session Zero will be devoted to discuss about the game/themes/topics, and the second portion will be character creation.

Players can expect

• Find a game to join solo or search for a professional game master for you and your friends/coworkers/family.
• Book your session and wait for the Game Master to approve you.
• If you don't have a blast with your first game, your next game is on us.
