About the adventure

WELCOME TO THE TOMB OF HORRORS! The ultimate test of a player’s ingenuity, courage, and persistence. Designed by Gary Gygax; it is consistently ranked in the top three best of all time. The ultra-powerful litch Acererak has created a final resting place filled with monsters and traps of the most deadly variety. Only the best and most powerful have any hope. Do you have the courage... or does your courage exceed your wisdom (lol)? If so; you should dare to defeat The Tomb of Horrors. Hey guys, Corwin here. I've been playing D&D since 1977 and I love it. I played and ran this module many times when it was 'new'. Players typically either LOVE or HATE it and there's no in between. Let me give you some insight on why that is. The patient and careful adventurers usually do quite well. Rambunctious murder hobos typically don’t last 20 minutes. A mix of seasoned and relatively new players by far do the best. Players who are focused on their character sheet and how awesome they are; typically don't last very long. No one will ever overpower this dungeon; it requires patience, and courage to defeat. Players who carefully observe the dungeon and not themselves are the ones who defeat The Tomb of Horrors. I have personally reimagined this adventure from the original source material and from my own firsthand experience of running it for over 40 years. The game is calibrated for 4-7 characters of level 15 to 17. The Tomb of Horrors is the adventure that all other dungeon crawls are compared to; and for good reason. If you've never done a classic dungeon crawl I am the best DM you could hope for. I want the players to succeed and love watching them do it. I was there when most of the techniques and methods for dungeon crawls were invented. If you have the courage, or if your courage just exceeds your common sense to stay home… you should join us. This module requires a session zero and I refund the players who attend session zero. Then three sessions of 3.5 to 4 hours each to complete the adventure. We will determine times for the remaining sessions during session zero. I’ve been the Dungeon's Keeper (a.k.a. a Dungeon Master) for 44 years and this is hands down my favorite module of all time. I'm mainly interested in getting a great game and finding some great people to play with. I want the players to succeed but I also want them to work for it and be challenged. Thanx Corwin the Dungeon's Keeper May the wind be at your backs and a cold brew on your lips!

How to prepare

Hey players, Preparation is fairly straight forward. A microphone is an absolute must. A camera is nice but not necessary. A basic understanding of 5e rules will be helpful, but not necessary. There's no software to install really. EXCEPT for google chrome. Foundry VTT works best with Chrome. Character should be generated or transferred to D&D Beyond. From there I can easily import them into Foundry. If you're a novice, or relatively new player definitely look at one of the pre-made characters. They are ideally suited for this module Thanx, Corwin

What I provide

I bring everything else. The server, the virtual tabletop, etc. I also bring over 40 years of experience, and have played in and run this module several times.

Gameplay details

Okay everybody, PG-14!! Here where we need to have a heart to heart. This is basically a suspense adventure more than it is a 'horror' adventure. But it is still technically in the 'horror' genre. Honestly I first played this module when I was only seven years old and I came out just fine (insert macabre screaming in the background here) LOL. Just kidding. I would allow a 14 year old to play (WITH PARENT'S PERMISSION).

How will character creation work

Greetings players, I have premade characters at level 17. Also, you can bring your own. I expect your party to be pretty stout. This module isn't for characters with few hit points and fewer resources. Ironically the best asset you can have is a methodical observation of your surroundings, and a patient planning among the players on how to approach each emerging obstacle. The worst any party ever did while I was running this module where technically overpowered and they all died within the first 15 minutes. The party that did the best were midlevel players who were barely high enough level to face the challenges. PLEASE contact me on DISCORD after you sign up here. My handle is 'CorwinBlackWolf' Please put "The Tomb of Horrors" in the first message. Thanx, Corwin
