About the adventure

Long war has divided the attention of the kingdom of Thorlund, allowing darkness to spread in the Spiderveil, the ancient forest that divides the northern provinces from the capitol city Stormbrand on the Thunder Coast. On the outskirts of the town of Three Sisters, the small community of Ven has been increasingly beset by strange attacks from the Spiderveil. Sent by the authorities of Three Sisters to look into the matter, your team must work together to discover the source of these attacks and end this threat to Ven. Enter this homebrewed campaign setting to explore and save the realm!

How to prepare

Players will need a mic (webcam optional), a free Discord account, a free account on DnDBeyond.com, and a free account on Roll20.net. Players will need to have a general familiarity with the basic rules prior to session 0 (feel free to reach out for a private discussion or resources for understanding the major rules, if you are a new player). Our typical game will be handled over discord for chat, text, and images, with each player referencing their DnDBeyond character page. Generally, we will be using Theater of the Mind for gameplay, supplementing with Roll20.net when an interactive visual cue is particularly helpful.

What I provide

Players are welcome to use their own physical dice or the free digital dice on DnDBeyond or Roll20. Digital access to the core rulebooks and more will be provided through DnDBeyond. For long-term campaigns, I will periodically send prints of hand-drawn maps to US residents of the campaign setting as the characters reach new areas.

Gameplay details

My favorite part of D&D is telling a story with friends. Whether you prefer to narrate your character’s actions and words, voice all of lines, or do some combination, role-playing your character and their growth in and out of battle is the most important part of our collaboration together. As such, players can expect a reasonable adherence to the rules (more or less dependent on group preference), with exceptions made to keep the story moving and to maintain player agency.

How will character creation work

The campaign will kick off with a Session 0 to meet the group and discuss/create 1st-level characters and character backstories. I recommend coming with an idea or two of what kind of character you want to play or hero you wish to emulate (fully-written/created characters are also welcome, as long as you are willing to fit it into the campaign setting—it is especially important that you check with me prior to creation for info on how certain races fit into the setting). Time-permitting, I like to do some light role-playing in the first session so we can learn about each others play-styles and how our characters behave and interact with the world. This gives us an early chance to adjust any character settings that don’t fit our character concept, or realize that we need to adjust details about our characters.

Players can expect

  • Combat/Tactics: Medium
  • Roleplay: High
  • Puzzles: Medium
  • Experience Level: Open to all
