About the adventure

Once every eight years, the fantastic Witchlight Carnival touches down on your world, bringing joy to one settlement after the next. Its owners, Mister Witch and Mister Light, know how to put on a good show. But there’s more to this magical extravaganza than meets the eye! The carnival is a gateway to a fantastic Feywild domain unlike anything found on the Material Plane. Time has not been kind to this realm, however, and dark days lie ahead unless someone can thwart the dastardly schemes of the Hourglass Coven. The Wild Beyond the Witchlight takes adventurers from the Witchlight Carnival to Prismeer, a Feywild domain of delight, and is designed for characters of levels 1–8. This book comes with a poster map that shows the carnival on one side and Prismeer on the other.

Additional Details

How to prepare

You should have a decent quality mic and a set of headphones to reduce background noise/echo for other players. You should make an account on Roll20, D&D Beyond as well as Discord if you haven't already. You should also download the Beyond20 browser extension which allows you to Roll from D&D Beyond into Roll20. You are also encouraged to familiarize yourself as well as you can with your characters spells and abilities.

What I provide

I will bring the digital platform on Roll20 fully set up with maps and artwork. I also bring a full host of characters options and background available through my content sharing on D&D beyond.

Gameplay details

The focus of this adventure is on roleplay and solving problems. While I like to stay true to the mechanics of 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons the emphasis will be on resolving combats relatively quickly, aiming for a more cinematic feel. Our session 0 will involve establishing Lines & Veils together, the document will be created in Roll20 and will be accessible to view and edit by all players throughout the game. We will then create characters and establish their backstories as well as connections between the characters. Each session will begin with a recap of the previous session and will include a 15 min break about half-way through. Players are welcome and encouraged to call for a break when needed. We will finish each Session by doing a bit of de-brief using Stars and wishes so players can give feedback to the DM about what they are particularly enjoying and what they are looking forward to.

How will character creation work

Characters will begin at 1st level. They will be created in D&D Beyond, though if you are more comfortable using Roll 20 for tracking your character details that is also acceptable. Ability scores will be determined using the point buy system. Any official D&D 5e content is fair game. If you are able to join in on our session 0 you can wait till that time to create your character otherwise you should have them ready before the session. Feel free to reach out to me if you would like help or guidance during that process.

Players can expect

  • Combat/Tactics: Low
  • Roleplay: High
