About the adventure

Dawnscrest is the human city-state on the Western Coast of Sunland, a promising continent in its early years of settlement. This gigantic city, with looming stone walls separating its districts from each other and the outside world acts as the primary port for ships arriving from the Old World. With a population in the hundreds of thousands its guards, dubbed the Dawnscrest Militia, have a tendency to be stretched thin. Luckily they’ve been receiving new volunteers lately, many of which are teeming with excitement to prove themselves in this new land of opportunity. They’re not without their chances, as Dawnscrest’s size and influence lends encouragement to all sorts of unsavory practices; from the infamous cut-purses stalking Waukeen’s Waltz all the way to shadowy cabals trying to squirm their way into the bureaucratic halls of Helmsarm. The district in need of the most attention rarely gets enough, though. The Silver Crescent, colloquially referred to as Shadetown, sits in the shadow of the rest of Dawnscrest as it wraps its way around the Eastern side of the city. Hastily constructed to house the ever increasing influx of newcomers, it is the most densely populated of the five regions. Its population density and disproportionate lack of light has led to Shadetown being nearly overrun with criminal activity and until recently, the Dawnscrest Militia had all but given up on the place, leading some to dole out illegal vigilante justice. This is all about to change, though, as the newly appointed leader of the Dawnscrest militia, General Commissioner Satya Chathi, has made it her first priority to help make The Silver Crescent the safe and thriving community she knows it can be. That’s where you come in. --- The Night Shift is a one shot for level 3 characters. In it you will be part of (or joining forces with) the newly formed Order of Occult Protection Services to investigate rumours of the last vestiges of a cult hiding out in The Silver Crescent, the mysterious disappearance of a city official and a local vigilante who always seems to be in the right place at the right time. Your character could be a member of the Dawnscrest Militia, a concerned volunteer, or perhaps some sort of specialist asked to help out (for compensation) by the task force’s leader, Lieutenant Wendall. Either way, you will need to form and perform as a well functioning team. This one shot is (or, should be) relatively short, with both RP and dungeon-crawl aspects. It’s your time to shine, recruit; show the city what you’ve got.

Additional Details

How to prepare

Players will need a mic, webcam is optional. Right now I'm only running games digitally through Roll20 and Discord which both require (free) accounts. A rudimentary understanding of D&D 5e rules is definitely a big plus, but I can totally work with folks who have never played before, as long as the other players in the session are alright with it.

What I provide

- A mix of classic and created monsters as well as custom maps - If you have art for you character you can send it my way and I'll make a little custom token for you! - I have the base player's handbook and a few expansions for D&D 5e that are shareable through my games on Roll20. If there's something you'd like to play as that's not available through the Roll20 charactermancer I can help you build a custom character sheet.

Gameplay details

- Before we play I will ask folks to fill out a TTRPG Consent Checklist for me so I can make sure to know where everyone is at. - Session structure is usually pretty casual, I find it makes for a more enjoyable experience if we can enjoy each others' company as players as well as our characters. - While I do try to keep the overall mood of my games light, there are themes of classism in a few of my one shots. - I like to have non-violent options available in all of my games but generally the level and intensity of combat is left to the players to decide. - I don't accept any form of bigotry at my table when we play. If a player is behaving inappropriately during a game they will be asked to leave. Depending on the severity of their behaviour I may give them one warning beforehand.
