About the adventure

Champions 6e on the Foundry VTT platform. These one-shot scenarios are planned to be action-packed episodic strategy and fun. Your heroes are recruits of a corporate entity sent out on specific missions to abate crime and bring supervillains to justice. The 3-4 hour sessions will begin with some light RP and character development and roll quickly into the strategic fight, and hopefully wrap with enough time to RP the end results together. Episodic plotlines may build to an overall story arch but in and of themselves should be fully self-contained. Games will be played on Foundry, but with 3D battlemaps and character models. Verteran and new players alike are welcome to this game if they want to play out their own comic book of MCU-level excitement.

How to prepare

I do not ask players to be on webcam, but I strongly encourage it. It makes the experience better for everyone IMO. 1) a computer capable of running 3D graphics games. The bar is pretty low, but it won't run on a tablet or chrombook. 2) You do not need any special software. The VTT runs in a browser. 3) You need Discord and a set up and working Discord account. PLEASE use a headset and play in a low-traffic/noise area to keep background noise down. I prefer everyone to not be muted during play so we can all hear immediate reactions and such, but squawking birds and barking dogs and people in the background talking and laughing can be quite a distraction for everyone. 4) Please check that all your hardware and software is working. We don't want game sessions to become "tech support" time, so if you need extra help contact me well before game time and I will try to help if I can. 5) If you are going to make your own character, you will need to have the latest version of Hero Designer and be able to get me your HDC character file so I can look at it, approve it, and load it in for the game.

What I provide

1) 3D Battlemaps that we will play on within Foundry VTT whenever available. Some 2D maps might be used when necessary. 2) Scenarios will often be taylored to some or all of the PCs backgrounds with a "spotlight" rotations approach. 3) Player are encouraged to make their own 3D Superhero mini's (i.e. user HeroForge.com) and purchase them to bring into the game. I will help with instructions on how to do that. 4) FoundryVTT perpetual server, and Discord server to discuss the game between sessions.

Gameplay details

Depending on scenarios and characters, this game might contain or deal with the following themes: Alcohol and drug references or abuse (i.e. some characters might be coping with, or helping other cope with, dependence on fictitious, in-game energies, technologies, or substances, or even in-game illicit drugs or alcohol); Lots of Comic Book Violence, though death very rarely occurs; Maybe some PG-13 language, but I ask everyone to try to keep it within sensical limits; Some light romance is possible, but there will be no tolerance for sexually explicit, heavy romance, or highly detailed and explicit violence. Human trafficking may be a theme, but there will be no deep dives on the details. In other words, the heroes may encounter a variety of criminal activity and varying degrees of evil. It will likely be obvious what the nature of the crime or activity involves, but I will not tolerate explicit or dark descriptions of such activity. Crime scenes can be gritty and somewhat horrifying, but we try to keep it to what is needed to convey the situation. Since this is, in most ways, a player driven story, content and themes may arise unplanned. For this reason players who find themselves out of their depth are welcome, without judgement, to step away, message the GM with the concern, etc., and those messages will be respected as much as possible. I encourage multi-generational gameplay, giving parents a chance to play with their kids the games they enjoyed in their own youth. Each group could be very different, so ground rules and boundaries may need to be set and kept "on the fly".

How will character creation work

CP Totals 300 Base + 150 in matching Complications AP Max 65 (aim at 60) DEF average: 15-20, MAX 35 • Campaign Tone: • Morality ○ Mostly Black and White with shades of grey. • Realism ○ Unrealistic • Outlook ○ Characters make a positive impact in Metro City but not necessarily in the world or universe. There are sometimes complications and setbacks. • Superpowers • Emergence ○ Superpowers have existed for decades, first popping up in the 1930s. Some supers claim source of power that predates that by millennia, but most powers seems to come from mutations, "accidents", and experiments. It will be very unusual to see galactic, or extra-dimensional heroes in this campaign because of the anticipated power level a being like that. GM discretion will apply. • Sources ○ There are no specifically banned sources, and the GM will try to work player ideas into the game, but the GM hold final veto rights. Possible broad examples include Alien Species, Extra-Dimensional Energies, Genetic Manipulation, Magic/Mysticism, Mutation, Psionics, Rubber Science, The Supernatural, or Training. • Frequency ○ Superpowered individuals appear at random frequencies in the world. Some are born to it and exhibit powers as the come of age, while others seem to spring into existence unexpectedly. There seem to be more who choose crime than those who choose to fight against it. There are enough villains to support a full Super-Pro-Max prison to contain them, and para-military organizations to help protect citizenry when supers are not in high enough numbers to do all the work. • Supers and Society • Normals tend to be afraid of all supers, and are not always trusting of them. There are factions that are continually trying to outlaw all superpowers unless under the control of the government. So far they have not been successful. When heroes win the public trust they are often treated with celebrity. • Supers and the Law • There is a tenuous relationship between law enforcement and supers. Law Enforcement knows it is far outmatched and would rely on other superheroes to fulfill any warrants against a super. This is one of the main reasons for Hero Inc. This is an organization that polices its own, and holds its members to a standard that Law Enforcement and Governments have so far deemed acceptable. These standards are guarded well by the organization in order to keep the autonomy the organization enjoys. ○ Rules are fairly simple: § Obey the Law. Do not infringe on the rights of others, especially when they are less powerful than you. § Uphold the Constitution. § Seek the welfare of others and the support of a strong society. § Submit to investigations if the legitimacy of any of your actions comes into question. § You may protect your true identity from the public, but not from Hero Inc. • Super Teams • Hero Inc will be the prominent team in the game for PCs. There may be other teams, some as villainous, some rivals.
