About the adventure

A dwarven miner by the name of Gundren Rockseeker has hired you to escort a cart of mining equipment to the frontier town of Phandalin. From there your life as a fledgling young adventurer will never be the same as you face bandits, orcs, goblins, hobgoblins, a necromancer, a banshee, dungeons, dragons, and everything else one expects out of a D&D campaign. This level 1-5+ campaign for 5e Dungeons and Dragons is roughly based on the Lost Mine of Phandelver published module from the Starter Set, expanded with some material from the related Dragon of Icespire Peak module, and generally tweaked to be more open-ended to accommodate player choice and sandbox play as well as to give the villain an actual goal. This is an excellent campaign for first time players, as it delivers more or less everything the average first time player is expecting out of a game, but every 5e player should play some variation of the Phandelver campaign at some point, as it is probably the quintessential 5e D&D experience. I am a classroom teacher by profession and am always very happy to teach the game to new players of all age groups. Overall content rating is roughly PG-13 unless the group collectively decides otherwise.

Additional Details

How to prepare

Player will need a working microphone on one or more internet enabled devices capable (collectively) of running Discord, Zoom, and Roll20. Discord and/or Zoom should be installed beforehand (whether we actually use both will depend on player preferences and technical limitations). Players should ideally also bring some familiarity with and access to 5e D&D rules, an idea for a character, character art (off of a google image search is fine), and a working webcam, but if you lack any of those things no worries, we'll make it work.

What I provide

I will bring an elaborately assembled Roll20 campaign with battlemaps and art (some custom), a Discord server, a Zoom account, and a large personal library of 5e books.

Gameplay details

Session Zero will establish expectations, introduce the campaign, discuss safety tools, and cover character creation. In the event that everyone gets characters somewhat together we may do some brief play as well.

How will character creation work

We will be rolling up 1st level characters in Session 0, though players are welcome to make them beforehand if they so desire. We'll be using standard rolled-stat character creation rules, with all officially published options allowed, unless the group decides otherwise in Session 0. If that doesn't mean anything to you, don't worry about it.

Players can expect

  • Combat/Tactics: Medium
  • Roleplay: Medium
  • Puzzles: Low
  • Experience Level: Open to all
