About the adventure

This game features the new setting for 5e - Medieval Tales from Europe, kickstarting later this year. Get your first taste of a new more historically accurate way to play D&D set in real world medieval Europe and beyond. Characters are more fragile, combat is more meaningful and magic exists in the mind, not reality. There are new classes, new mechanics but the same 5e system you know and love. In this one-shot adventure you will be working to help ransom a minor noble Philippe of Autun, who has been captured by the Saracen. You’ll need to aid the knight’s wife to negotiate his release while navigating the minefield of intrigue that was the First Crusade where nobles were often as much in danger from their own side as they were from the enemy. Play from one of the 3 classes available in the Medieval Tales from Europe QuickStart - the Warrior, the Peasant and the Votary and get an exclusive preview of this exciting setting before it launches late 2022.

How to prepare

You’ll need a good mic and a webcam. I’ll get the pregenerated character to you beforehand and have a good explanation of your new class for you. Bring some dice if you want but Foundry will roll for you. You can familiarise yourself with the setting by downloading the QuickStart from medieval5e.com but it’s not a requirement to play.

I’ll supply the characters, the adventure and the new rules. Plus the full set up required to play in Foundry.

Gameplay details

The emphasis in the Medieval - Tales from Europe setting is definitely on role play. Violence is much more realistic and a single sword stroke can kill even the hardiest warrior. So it becomes a tool of last resort or a point of high drama. Be ready to use all your other roleplaying “muscles.” The setting is new and still under development. I’m using it with the permission of the developers who want more people to try it out. I have been involved as a translation editor and playtest GM and it’s super fun. This is your chance for a sneak peek. If you are new to D&D this is a great introduction to a combat light experience and if you are an old hand it is a great way to try a new approach to play.

How will character creation work

I’ll have pre-generated characters set up with the new classes since they are entirely new. You can name them, give them a story but you won’t need to worry about abilities and class features.

Players can expect

• Find a game to join solo or search for a professional game master for you and your friends/coworkers/family.
• Book your session and wait for the Game Master to approve you.
• If you don't have a blast with your first game, your next game is on us.
