The Keep on the Borderlands

About the adventure
The Original D&D Adventure Gary Gygax's "The Keep on the Borderlands" - for many, the first adventure they ever read, played, or ran. Designed for the Basic edition of the game way back in 1980, this adventure has everything - evil cults, feuding humanoid tribes, lost ruins, cursed caverns, mad hermits, quicksand, and more gold than you can count! I'll be using Goodman Game's 5th Edition conversion of the module, and hi-res maps made especially for the adventure. Every week we'll delve into the forests and mountains surrounding this isolated fortress, and navigate the horrors and treasures that lie within!
How to prepare
A mic and a quiet place to play is all that is required. This game is open to all, so if you've never had experience with D&D before, you're welcome to join! When you sign up, I'll schedule a free session with you to help you make a character and introduce you to the digital tools we'll use.
What I provide
30 years of D&D experience The Goodman Games 5E conversion of the original module https://goodman-games.com/store/product/original-adventures-reincarnated-1-into-the-borderlands/ Hi-res battlemaps made specifically for this module https://www.dmsguild.com/product/228220/Caves-of-Chaos-Realistic-Maps Hundreds of digital tokens (miniatures) from Forgotten Adventures https://www.forgotten-adventures.net/product-category/tokens/ A D&D Beyond account with access to all the player sourcebooks to share Players Handbook Xanathar's Guide to Everything Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide Tasha's Cauldron of Everything A dedicated Discord Server where we can communicate/plan between adventures.
All players will require a mic, and a camera is preferred, but not required. Players will make their characters in D&D Beyond (free account) and have access to all my books during the campaign. We will start at 1st Level, and level up using session-based milestones. This adventure is NOT a railroad - it's a big map with a lot of different places to explore. The story will come from what you decide to do. There are plenty of NPCs to interact with and adventure seeds, but the "plot" of the campaign will be what you make it. I'm very into weaving character backstories into my campaigns, so that will be a large part of what determines what the campaign is "about". Combat won't be too focused on tactics, but we will be using battlemaps and tokens. How much of the campaign is combat vs. how much is exploration or roleplaying is really determined by the choices you make. As far as tone, this game is a beer-and-pretzels "classic" D&D game. Nothing super serious - we'll explore the map, make friends and enemies, and have fun.

How will character creation work
Characters will start at 1st Level and be made in D&D Beyond. If you already have a 1st level character, you can bring them in, or I will schedule a free individual session before the campaign to help you design a character. I will also have pregenerated characters created for those who don't want to make their character or who join up last minute.
