About the adventure

The year is 1924, and America is in the midst of a cultural, technological and economic boom. Women have gained nationwide suffrage, mass media is on the rise, and jazz music fills every street corner. Prohibition is in full effect, and organized crime and speakeasies thrive. Along with a few others, you have taken advantage of the booming economy and opened a PI firm. Within a week, your first client, a Mr. Steven Knott, enlists your services, wishing for you to simply take a look through a property he has bought to clear any rumors surrounding the place. Seems easy enough, right?

How to prepare

A decent microphone and a Discord and Roll20 account are required for this game; webcams will not be used. Other than that, just bring your imagination and a readiness to play, as all game materials will be provided!

What I provide

I will bring all necessary rulebooks and supplements as well as a ready-made Roll20 game complete with battlemaps!

Gameplay details

Expect a game focused around narrative storytelling, a bit like a detective mystery. There will be a lot of investigation and digging up info and a lot of interaction with other party members as well as various NPCs with relatively little combat. The game can go anywhere from 4 to 8 hours if done as a one shot, so a split into two sessions is possible at no additional charge. Before play begins, I will collect lines and veils from players and edit the campaign as necessary to avoid crossing any of them. A single 10-15 minute break will be placed at a certain point in the game, with an option for additional breaks should the group desire it. I generally use the 'x card' system on Roll20 to give players a means to stop play, no questions asked, if something they are uncomfortable with comes up.

How will character creation work

Characters will be created via the Point Buy system presented in the Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition core rulebook, which will be provided. All characters will be baseline, at a level comparable to 'level 1', despite the system not having numbered levels. Characters will be created with the assistance of the GM before play begins on game day; pre-made characters will also be available for players who would like to utilize one instead of generating their own character.

Players can expect

  • Combat/Tactics: Low
  • Roleplay: High
  • Puzzles: Low
  • Experience Level: Beginner
