The Creeping Darkness

About the adventure

How long has the darkness managed to spread? How many villages, towns, and cities have felled to the legions of the undead? But more than anything, it's the despair, it makes people give up hope, accept the fate laid down to them from the Towers of the Dark Lords castles. Will you push back against it? Will you become paladins against the coming dark? Hunters of fell beast of the night? Leaders of the militia who hold the light of hope in their arms? Or maybe you will be something different, maybe you will become part of the darkness... I, your simple DM, cannot answer that, only you and the choices you make. Be master of our fate in these dark days! "The creeping Darkness" is a free-form gothic horror-themed DnD campaign based around the upcoming "Van Richten's Guide To Ravenloft" sourcebook. Unlike the acclaimed "Curse of Strahd" campaign, this doesn't follow an previously laid out story and invites the players to explore and make their own destiny in lands ruled, or being in the process of being conquered by, dark lords in the veins of the Vampire Strahd. But it is not just vampires, necromancers, were-lords, undead mummies. All wish to control or maybe eliminate, the remaining settlements of humanity. What form those this campaign take? How to prepare

Players should take time to think about their characters and be willing to work on creating/developing them outside of gameplay sessions. No other prep is necessary.

What I provide

I bring thematic art and battle maps to FoundryVTT. Furthermore, everything necessary to add ambiance to the game, including music, appropriate virtual tokens. This includes a hero forge account so players can design their own virtual minis. For some games, if players are willing to use the amazing TaleSpire Virtual tabletop, this means fully immersive virtual 3-D terrain. I also take time to prepare material for players, and always on-landing page on Foundry where players can look at their journal, current quest and any other info related to the ongoing campaign.

Gameplay details

This is a horror-themed game. Expect violent descriptions of creatures of the night killing humans, and other gory stuff. That said, how violent or dark we go depends on what we as a group feel comfortable with. So during session zero (and any time that is necessary), we will have a safety discussion based on the RPG consent sheet. Also, during gameplay, the X rule will always be in play (its use will be explained during session zero). Finally, in sessions that are expected to be more "horror", I will make sure to layout trigger warnings, allowing players a say in content always.

How will character creation work

Character creation will happen during session zero or during the two week before the first sessions. I will be available for players to help them in the process if necessary and/or to make sure their backstory fits in with the campaign.

Players can expect

• Find a game to join solo or search for a professional game master for you and your friends/coworkers/family.
• Book your session and wait for the Game Master to approve you.
• If you don't have a blast with your first game, your next game is on us.
