About the adventure

Welcome to the Western Continents of the world of Oxora. Between the seas of the Dawn and Dusk are the diverse nations and freeholds of the known world. Furthest west are the isles of the Sargs where the reclusive elves who opted to remain on the material plane still linger. Southernmost is Kelger, the jungle continent. A mostly unexplored and untamed land rife with mystery. North of the jagged coasts of Kelger is the largest of the continents, great Perridor. A storied land where humanity began. Dominating the heart of Perridor is the desert of Korimandora and on its fringes stand the great nations of the continent. North of Perridor is Eliridor a war-ravaged continent dominated by the theocratic Urnfrestian Empire on a relentless conquest to spread the influence of their divine emperor into all other domains. And easternmost is the peninsular continent of Paegra, a plenty land of rivers, valleys, and mountains. Across the many nations of these five continents are countless faiths, governments, organizations, resources, and cultures at play. From which of these nations will you hail? To which god do you pray? To whom to you swear your allegiance? How will you leave your mark and carve your name into the annals of Oxora?

How to prepare

As I said this setting has extensive lore, the general lore I have spread across a handful of digestible documents that I would expect players to read before character creation. As for triggers and behaviors at the table that will happen first and foremost. Players are encouraged to use their video camera if they have one but it is not mandatory during play, audio is nonnegotiable however. Sessions will be run on discord and combat will be viewed in roll20. Note taking is highly encouraged. I will need a picture of your character sheet ahead of play.

What I provide

As for me I will be bringing and using my own dice and rolling digitally for pivotal rolls. I use procreate to create world maps which I will happily share with players. For battlemaps I utilize inkarnate. If players would like official art of their characters I know several artists far better than myself that I could commission.

Gameplay details

Before launching a session 0 with any of my players I would request that they send me a list of their lines and veils ahead of time so as to establish triggers. Using lists from players I would construct a document concerning behavior at the table including a combined list of lines and veils. This will be a shared document on which players can make suggestions and we can motion to amend the lists and rules. Keep in mind this is a gritty fantasy setting with aspects of horror and shock to set and maintain the tone as needed as the narrative progresses.

How will character creation work

When it comes to character creation I believe communication between the player and the DM is pivotal. Obviously the player has ultimate autonomy but as the DM I will always be available to suggest ways to fit the character into a wider narrative. Rime of the Frostmaiden utilizes a 'secrets' mechanic. Before character creation the players will be given a list of potential secrets that they could minorly or majorly tie into their creation process. I find that backstories are hard to remember when they are just words on paper. Before beginning a long term campaign in earnest I would like to run one-on-one session 0s with each player to establish characters in the setting as well as roleplay pivotal backstory moments. Players will be utilizing the 5e point buying system for stats and building their characters anywhere from level 1 to 3 depending on class and backstory. The setting is very human heavy and other races are rare (elves, dwarves, halflings and gnomes are uncommon but not nonexistent). For this reason I encourage players to select from humans, variant humans, half elves, or elves or otherwise consult me concerning other races.
