Text Only Games on Foundry Virtual Table Top

About the adventure

Why text based play? Many people find using audio communication cumbersome or impossible. These include the deaf and hard of hearing community, people with speech impediments, and many who suffer from social anxiety disorders as well as those who just don't have a microphone. Also, remember MUDs? I used to roleplay using text chat all the time. And we didn't have maps. With Foundry Virtual Table Top, I can provide you with maps and other visuals to accompany our chat based game play in real time using Foundry's built in chat features and some additional customization to add drama and mystery. This isn't a play by post game, it is real time chat with visuals. Everything takes place visually and in real time. I have found that text chat only games are more immersive and more intensive, with fewer side conversations and distractions. We are focused on the game and it is a lot of fun. There are still silly moments and lots of laughter. Any of my games can be played using only text chat within Foundry Virtual Tabletop. We will also have a private Discord channel for chatting between games (as well as the ability to communicate through this site, of course).

How to prepare

When you register, I will send you a discord invitation and a DnDBeyond campaign invitation. Please join both of these. You may begin creating your character on DnDBeyond, but we will finalize our characters at session 0 on Discord text chat.

What I provide

I will have several books for you to use on DnDBeyond and my Foundry Virtual Tabletop will be optimized for chat based play.

Gameplay details

All of my games are PG-13 and safe for work. Themes of sexual assault and child abuse and the roleplay of sexual activity is not permitted. Every player at my table will be respected with regard to their specific needs and boundaries. Players who do not respect other players will be removed from the game. Detailed discussion of boundaries and safety tools will take place at Session 0.

How will character creation work

We will create our characters and maintain our character sheets on DnDBeyond. Characters should fit with the theme and setting (Forgotten Realms). Use Point Buy for abilities and all customizations must be approved by the GM. We will discuss character creation a bit in our Discord chat leading up to Session 0 and finalize our characters and backstories at Session 0. Backstories are important because I enjoy integrating them into the game.

Players can expect

• Find a game to join solo or search for a professional game master for you and your friends/coworkers/family.
• Book your session and wait for the Game Master to approve you.
• If you don't have a blast with your first game, your next game is on us.
