About the adventure

Three weapons of legendary fame and power have gone missing! Going only by a riddle left on a thief’s note, part-ransom and part-guide, you, like many have before, stand before White Plume Mountain, a stronghold built by the supposedly long-dead wizard Keraptis. What curiosities does the mountain hide? Lawrence Schick, the author of White Plume Mountain, related in the 2013 compilation Dungeons of Dread that he wrote the adventure as a way of persuading Gary Gygax to hire him as a game designer. Not only did he get the job, but White Plume became an instant favourite when it was first published in 1979.
