About the adventure

Welcome, traveler, to the most distant Trachorian colony - the island of Marjura. This gods-forsaken place has ice, snow, giants and flying monsters...and sulphur: precious, precious sulphur, the most valuable substance in the Empire! But why did YOU come? Are you here for: * A sacred mission:to eradicate the evil Shagulite sect. Previous agents of the Animist church have disappeared. What are these cultists up to? * Revenge: The Shagulites might have abducted a close relative. Rumor has it that the Shagulites abduct people for their evil experiments. * Politics: It is said that the Shagulites have gained the Empress' ear. Powerful nobles want that influence gone! * Sabotage: Only the Merchant House Shakello can trade in Sulphur from Marjura. The convoy is very, very rich. Maybe a rival merchant house wants to sabotage the Sulphur mining operation and has employed one of the characters? * Mercenaries: Fingolf Silverhammer, son of the Trinsmyran baron Gustald Silverhammer, has joined the Shagulite sect. The baron wants him back to resume his proper duties as an heir. The characters will be rewarded well for bringing him back...discreetly. * An archaeological expedition: There are rumours that there are untouched tombs on the island. Scholars have debated whether alleged finds might be genuine. If someone can find the tombs, they might become celebrities among scholars. Or rich. Sulphur Winte is the first part of an epic tale, shaking the very foundations of the Empire, and possibly, the world.

How to prepare

Players need a webcam and a mic. I will explain rules. I will provide players with indepth setting information needed for character generation. Players should prepare by expecting a cooperative and collaborative game where they contribute to the story, play for drama, exposing their characters weakness sometimes, and trust each other. Characters will experience hardships, not the players.

What I provide

* Virtual Tabletop (Foundry VTT) * Rulebook * Scenario * Special effects (weather, lighting, etc) * Soundtrack * Ambient sound * Character sheets * Animated virtual dice roller * Maps (Regional and tactical).

Gameplay details

A typical session starts with the players doing a "Shadow turn" - players often run 2 roles in this game. The first is a Shadow Power - a faction leader of some kind vying for political control over a particular area, and the first thing that happens in the session is that we do a turn of that Shadow play. Each Shadow Power - faction leader - then sends orders to a player character that belongs to its faction, which will be controlled by a different player. One the Shadow Play is done, regular character play ensues. The play will explore the story and drama. Finally, we summarize the session and distribute Fate dice for characters that have earned them through play. I use Monte Cook's Consent Check list to calibrate the game according to player needs. The following are some topics that exist in the setting as written (of course subject to player consent) include: * Slavery * Blood * Demons * Gore * Nefarious magical/alchemical/medical experiments on unwilling subjects * Racism * Massmurder * Religious fanaticism/cults * Freezing to death * Severe weather * Starvation * Torture * Thirst

How will character creation work

Since the assumption is that players are unfamiliar with this game, we use Session 0 to create characters together. These characters will have backstories, and should be calibrated so that the group can work together, even when various factions in the setting might try to tear them apart.

Players can expect

  • Combat/Tactics: Low
  • Roleplay: High
  • Puzzles: Medium
  • Experience Level: Beginner
