About the adventure

The world has ended, but not in the fun way your grandfather and his militia members had hoped when they built the compound. No libertarian paradise arose from the ashes, no shining cities on any hills. The only remnants of Western Culture, or any culture for that matter are small desperate bands of survivors desperately clinging to life by sucking the marrow from the dying corpse of the world.

How to prepare

We will use Discord for chat, but will not be using video. We will enforce push-to-talk discipline because no one wants to listen to someone else chew for three hours. We will be using Fantasy Grounds Unity, so you will need to create a free account and download the free version if you do not already have it installed. Atmospheric sound, music, and audio clues will be provided by Syrinscape. You will need to download and install the Online Player (beta) before play to hear those sounds. This again is available at no cost to players. The Year Zero Engine is so easy to use that you can learn while you play, so you do not need to read anything prior to your first session.

What I provide

I have the Ultimate License version of Fantasy Grounds Unity, so you can join with only the "Free" or "Demo" version. You do not need to purchase any ruleset or expansions from Fantasy Grounds to play in the campaign.

Gameplay details

Survivor Town: Apocalypse includes frank descriptions of violence and the ruins of civilization. The setting is infused with satire about the evils of the modern world and how they can lead to the collapse of the current social structure. While this is presented as gallows humor, it is understood that this genre and these topics may not be for all players. There are scenes of meat eating and desperate survival as well as creatures and sentient being that are overtly and unswayably hostile toward the party members and their people. There are scenes of excessive greed and gluttony, counterposed with scenes of starvation and disease. This campaign will examine themes of what it means to be human in the absence of society writ large and in the context of human mutation and post-human evolution. Survivor Town: Apocalypse does not however seek to glorify the depravations of the End Days nor the failings of humanity that brought them about. Rewards will be given to players who seek to resolve conflicts without violence and bring light into the darkness of the post-apocalyptic world. This game will not include reference to human ethnic racism, sexism, homophobia, or transphobia. Players who feel uncomfortable at any point during the action or narrative are encouraged to immediately send a message to the Game Master where after we can adjust the tone accordingly or use the rewind safety tool to redress the situation. Communication and mutual respect are key to safe gaming and this campaign will be managed accordingly.
