Spirited Away: a Miyazaki inspired adventure set in fantasy Japan!

About the adventure

Join Any Time! Although it's best to get in to the campaign early, players can join at any time. THINK: "Spirited Away" meets "Seven Samurai". I wrote and first ran this game while living in Tokyo, Japan. It is filled with Japanese mythology, cultural and media references and things I experienced during my daily life in Japan! The Premise: You have been tasked by Xing Ye Leong, the High Chamberlain in the court of Weichu Xen Ji, Empress of One Thousand Lives, to deliver a package for her Divine Presence. You must accomplish this task before the end of next month. This is more than enough time to make the five-week journey to Wu Lu'n, most remote domain in Chung Kuo. She will accept no excuses. If you fail, death will be the LEAST that will happen to you. You are to deliver a box wrapped in knotted silk and sealed by spells, curses and poison needles. You and your companions sail towards Wu Lu'n. But all does not go well. The ship is attacked by a monster terrifying creature ... a Kaiju! You defend yourselves valiantly, but the ship is disabled. You manage to reach an island. KYOUKUZAN, the Haunted Island! Once a thriving gold mine, now abandoned to the animals and the ghosts, it is built on the steep hills of the island. It was once shared by the Han, the citizens of your Empire, and the Yamato people, sometimes your allies, more often your enemies. The town ruins shows this shared heritage. The soaring temple and great bath house such as you might see in the capital. The simpler orange arches, shrines and theater would be what you find in Asauto, home of the Yamato. The grim mines might be anywhere there is misery. You are in danger. There is no escape. And your time to deliver the package is running out. You must ESCAPE FROM KYOUKUZAN! ---- Kyoukuzan is another reading of the characters for "Nine Mines", which hapaens to be the name of a real place in Taiwan: JIUFEN. My wife and I visited this fantastic town in 2019, and were entranced by the community. This place inspired Miyazaki when he was planning Spirited Away (Sen to Chohiro Kamikakushi) and I have stood outside the place that served as a model for the Bathhouse! The map of our adventure is based on this place!

What I provide

Players who connect through DND Beyond (for FREE) will have access to: 1. all core manuals (including Player Handbook, Rick and Morty vs. DND, DM Guide and Monster Manual.) 2. Special Japanese character classes and weapons from the Heroes of the Orient manual from DMBuild. 2. 3D Online Dice rolling Map Software: I use Encounter + which is a browser-based map software. Players can move their own tokens. Maps are gorgeous and include Line of Sight and Fog of War. I'll also be bringing my sense of humour, my ability to improvise, my professional writing skills and my warm and pleasant gameplay style.
