About the adventure

THIS LISTING IS TO SCHEDULE SESSION ZEROS FOR AN UPCOMING CAMPAIGN. North of the Spine of the World, is a land rarely traveled except for those bolstered by stout hearts, driven by daring hopes, or fleeing from a guilty conscience and the secrets of the past. Icewind Dale, with its scant foothold of civilization known as Ten Towns nestled within its harsh tundra, is not for the faint of heart. Katabatic winds sweep down from the Reghed Glacier, ceaselessly battering anything that dares to grow or breathe in Icewind Dale. Without fail, these winds find their way through every chink and crack, every opening in the warmest furs, every tent flap, every roof and board of the strongest homes, draining away any hint of warmth. And word has spread that in recent years the sun no longer holds sway over this frozen tundra. While the rest of the world enjoys the summer sun, in Ten Towns and the barren tundras of Icewind Dale, the days falter in twilight, and the nights are dark. Storms bring driving hail and sleet that leaves everything coated in a sheath of ice. Snow piles in deep drifts and blocks all trails leading south to warmer lands. And every night a curtain of light weaves its way across the starry sky, an aura that portends an everlasting winter. Trapped in winter's cold embrace, nomadic humans follow herds of reindeer through their migrations, while others dare the treacherous waters of the western Sea of Moving Ice in search of fish, seals, walruses, and whales to sustain them. Dwarves dig into the earth to seek shelter and mine for iron. Meanwhile folk descended from foolhardy and treasure mad immigrants eke out meager lives in Ten Towns, which can barely hold back the wind, let alone marauding orcs, giants, and fierce tundra Yeti. Yet despite the unnatural cold and other dangers, some people, for reasons of their own, still brave the journey to reach this harsh winterscape searching for opportunity, adventure, or maybe just a little peace. Tone: Dark, brooding, spooky, and a little horror. Location: In the Realm of Faerun, north of the sword coast across the forbidding mountain range known as the Spine of the World.

Additional Details

How to prepare

Minimum requirements: A free Discord account A free Roll20 account A microphone that plays nice with Discord A way to keep notes throughout the campaign A basic understanding of how to roleplay (we can cover this in session zero) Optional: A webcam that plays nice with Discord A basic understanding of the rules of combat and skill checks A paper copy of your character sheet

What I provide

I bring a copy of the adventure both physically and on Roll20, as well as several sourcebooks for character creation on Roll20. The maps will be on Roll20, but I prefer to use theater of the mind as much as possible. I also bring improv and writing experience, so if things go off book, I can roll with wherever it takes us.

Gameplay details

Session zero: I do require a free session zero with me one-on-one before joining the game whether it is at the outset or joining at some point along the way. This serves two purposes: (1) it helps me tie your character into the campaign, and (2) it helps me feel out what everyone is comfortable with as far as roleplay. In-game Safety Tools: We will use the X/N/O to communicate during game sessions if anything lands in dicey territory. After Action Reports: I will check in privately with players after particularly tense roleplay and will be available for check-ins post-sessions.

How will character creation work

We will be using Roll20 to curate characters. I will make the Players Handbook, Xanathar's Guide to Everything, and Tasha's Cauldron of Everything available for character creation. If you intend to use another official resource, you are welcome to speak with me about it. Characters will be created during each player's session zero, but feel free to come with a build in mind. This campaign is going to be beginner friendly, so if you don't know what you want to play or how to make a character, that's OK! I'm here to help.

Players can expect

  • Combat/Tactics: Medium
  • Roleplay: High
  • Puzzles: Low
  • Experience Level: Open to all
