Scum and Villainy

About the adventure

Soy you think you've got what it takes to survive the galactic fringe, space cowboy? The Procyon Sector isn't for the weak-hearted. Between vicious criminal sydnicates, scheming Imperial Guilds, and outlandish mystic forces, a scoundrel is gonna be hard-pressed to make ends meet here. But you're gonna shoot your shot regardless, because you're not just any scoundrel. You are destined to become THE scoundrel. The one they're all whispering about. Will you be part of the roguish Stardancer crew, smuggling right under the Hegemony's nose? Will you serve aboard the Cerberus, tracking down bounties across desolate worlds? Or will you take up arms as a Firedrake, bringing the fight to the oppressive empire? No matter what you choose, you're in for the adventure of a lifetime. Get a job. Keep flying.

Gameplay details

CW: violence, swearing, drug use, and discussion of topics including colonization, genocide, and discrimination. We're aiming for a PG-13 vibe to the action here, but it does have the potential to get gruesome with some aspects of the setting. Scum & Villainy is a game meant to emulate the adventures of space scoundrels in high-octane series like Firefly, Star Wars, and Cowboy Bebop. Each player character has a resource called stress they can use to influence the narrative, introducing flashbacks to allow for retroactive planning. Thrown into an impenetrable vault by a megalomaniac crimelord? Good thing you smuggled an explosive the previous night when the rest of the crew thought you were asleep! Players are encouraged to play risky, play exciting, and don't let the odds get you down. We're aiming for a high-stakes, high-adventure tone with the game. Characters are going to face terrible odds, but the system equips you with various tools you can use to survive even the harshest of consequences. Play is self-motivated; you can pick up jobs for various factions, scheme towards your own crew's advancement, or fly off into the dark void in search of adventure. While this is a big galaxy with tons of cosmic forces in play, the story will be squarely focused on the personal drama of our crew. You are the star of your own space opera.
