About the adventure

* Free Session 0 once we hit the minimum number of players - TBD * Platforms available are listed, but the one used TBD by players * Player driven sandbox with all modules present "You find a Founder falling in/ You tell them the sea is full of fins/ They carry on about all the Salt/ You push them in with all their thoughts." -Saltmarsh rhyme Humid, warm winds spit from the Azure Sea, chasing off a late morning shower while shoving the rising plumes from circular, tabby built smokehouses inland. Foaming waves brush fish scale coated docks and the crusted hulls of heavy merchant hulks bob in their moorings. Porters and stevedores grow tangled as they rush about, hurling insults in any language they know. Coinage flows above deck and below as goods are bought, sold, or smuggled. Blind eyes, swift hands, and a sea's worth of honest sweat keep the port of Saltmarsh in good spirits and grog. "Good for a Salt, good for the 'Marsh," it's said, but even the sails of fortune can be brought to tatters when the weather turns. And the winds these days are blowing straight from the Throne of the Lion. A priest of Procan ascends a gangplank, beginning the chant of the Mariner’s Code as salt crusted sleeves rise. A deck wizard hands their captain a sparkling silver goblet brimming with a finely cut blue topaz. The goblet lifts to the sea’s horizon before inverting, its contents swiftly sinking into the frothing waters. Marines chant a final refrain and reach for the rigging as they swear death to pirates. It is 576 of the Common Year, in the kingdom of Keoland and the northern wars are closing. Veterans flood south to resettle the coast. Dwarves dig into the earth waving a royal writ as their banner. In the face of these new swells, bandits and pirates once fought--then mostly bargained with--recede…but so do the profits. So does the established way of life. After over a hundred years of being a forgotten backwater, a frontier of fish and frigates, the coastal Viscounty of Salinmoor is once again where the founding houses have turned their heads. A glare the locals are happy to return. The stench of self interest is as pervasive as the smell of fish guts these days. Change is coming. Hard change. What has thrived in the shadows of neglect, in the tangles of threats, can no longer stay as it was. The tide is rushing in. Welcome to Saltmarsh. Which currents will you ride? What will you protect? What will you change?

Additional Details

How to prepare

Players will need a mic, internet access, and zoom or discord (or both!). I will provide zoom (or discord if it's preferred), but nobody has to turn on their video if they don't want to. Depending on how the group chooses to play the game, everyone will then need ONE of these: 1.) A link from me to owlbear rodeo for their browser 2.) Fantasy Grounds Unity downloaded so they can access my game with a password 3.) A Roll20 account

What I provide

Maps, images, music, ambiance, sounds, aesthetic references, world lore, custom side plots, custom handouts, and a World Anvil tracking your campaign will be provided throughout the game.

Gameplay details

In session zero we'll clarify the setting a little further, discuss characters people are thinking of and how they might fit in and together, as well as the general content presented in the campaign, such as slavery, and whether or not we want to include that or exclude it. I am absolutely not interested in portraying bigots, sexists, sexual violence, or racism. The campaign as written by WotC does include slavery of any and all npcs or players, but I am happy to exclude this topic and rearrange play accordingly. Links will be provided to safety documents, a discord for debriefing and discussing the game, and any flags, cards, or breaks can be submitted directly or anonymously to myself, the GM.
