About the adventure

Thirsty Sword Lesbians is a game about clashing blades and emotions, using high fantasy and flashy action to tell queer stories and celebrate queer identity and experience. It's a game of deep feelings, moving stories, hope, and what it means to be one's authentic self. Problems are solved with words and swords alike, often in tandem. __ The world of Sahra was once a land of many kingdoms. They say the Patriarchs of old ruled empires that reached across the world and enslaved all people's they came across. It's hard to imagine that now. The Patriarchs were constantly at war with each other. They fought for resources and people to exploit, but most of all they fought to enslave Mother of Saints, the Goddess of life. They ultimately failed, but not before destroying each other and the world with bleeding edge sorcery and eldritch technology. They left the world an endless desert. The Queendom of Waha alone breaks the endless sand. A verdant oasis filled with plants and flowers fed by the mercy of the Mother of Saints, Waha stands as a beacon of life amidst a world of death. Free of the dark sorcery and wicked technology of the Patriarchs, Waha embraces the power of women, and provides food, water and magical healing to all. The populace hails Waha as a utopia. You have to disagree. You know that, for all her glories, the Mother of Saints supports life at the expense of the living. Her doctrines include forced labor to meet strict food quotas, banning of all methods of birth control, refusal to allow those suffering the mercy of death, and a reductionist view of biology that enforces strict cisheteronormative gender roles. Some of these traditions were forged in the early days where survival was uncertain and desperate, but none are needed in this age of magical plenty. Instead of accepting this toxic status quo, you have become Friend of Milthias. Milthias is a Saint who preached love for all, bodily autonomy, personal freedom of identity, the choice to have non-procreative sex or even no sex at all, and even the replacement of the Saints with a democratic body. For these heterodox beliefs, St Milthias has been imprisoned deep beneath the spiral Children's Cathedral. Despite her centuries long absence, the Friends of Milthias carry on her message to this very day. They offer safe haven to those who reject the limits placed on their lives by the Saints. You are criminal and outcast for being yourself, and fighting for it. But you will fight to free Milthias and all those oppressed by the Mother of Saints. Take up your sacred, blasphemous, sword for liberation! __ Ill winds blow in from the desert. Sand scours stone and flesh. The Saints of War marshal their armies. The Virgin Crone, a former Saint excommunicated to the desert, is returning. She has learnt dark arts from the tombs of the Patriarch, and monsters follow her footsteps. Is the Virgin Crone a potential ally against the Mother of Saints, or just another in a long list of threats?

Additional Details

How to prepare

Players will need working microphones, a Discord profile, and a Roll20 profile. Thankfully those last two are free. Players who wish to come A+ prepared can check out the playbooks before Session (I'll provide a link), so you have time to think about it and prepare.

What I provide

I'll bring the rules, the set up, and a bcuketfull of queer enthusiasm!

Gameplay details

The game is fast paced, rules light, and founded on a belief that liberation is possible. Things may be harsh, but good can win! The game does also tend to contain more flirting and romantic focus than one playing more traditional games might expect. Content Warning: Mature themes, depictions of bigotry (it's the purview of villains, but it's there), and themes relating to abortion and suicide (subtextually, mostly, rather than directly)

Content warnings

    (none)

Safety tools used
  • Lines and Veils
  • X, N, and O Cards
How will character creation work

Characters will be created as part of the Session. Character creation involves selecting a Playbook that matches a story you want to tell, and then making a few choices to best reflect that. There will be a short list of character ideas to get you started if you're having trouble.

Players can expect

  • Combat/Tactics: Low
  • Roleplay: High
  • Puzzles: Low
  • Experience Level: None
