About the adventure

A hearty welcome to all my green players who wish to dive into the gripping world of DnD. This Adventure is designed to help teach you the rules and mechanical quirks of the game, while also encouraging role play and character progression. This game will feel like a set of levels designed to help you learn more about the game and its many features. I will also be taking extra time to help players create their characters, as well as looking forward to the intended growth of that character. The setting you will be playing in is one of high fantasy, a rather normal DnD world, where swords and magic hold as much weight as the written law. The story you will be uncovering is of my own creation, telling the story of an Alchemist's betrayal by her student. Your Adventuring party will be thrust into this adventure as the Alchemists dying request, calling it fate or chance. She knew little of what her student has planned, other than his ambition to amass power by any means necessary. You will have to travel across the country side, seeking a resolution to what the alchemist warned you could be the end of the Island nation you all call home.

How to prepare

Players will need to have a Roll 20 account and a Discord account in order to play this game. Downloading discord to your computer is also highly recommended, as the browser version of the app is not as reliable. You do not need a webcam to play, although everyone is encouraged to show their beautiful faces. A microphone is required as we will need to hear you in order to play. You do not need to fully create a character ahead of time, however you will need to have an idea of what you want you character to be like. This means doing a little research into the different "Classes" of the game so you have an idea of the general archetypes and adventurer can be. During our session 0 we will further refine your character idea together and make a full character sheet. If you feel confident, feel free to make a character ahead of time, and I will review it for accuracy/balance during our session 0.

What I provide

I will be using the Roll 20 VTT(Virtual Tabletop) for this adventure and have a variety of e-books/modules on that platform that are available to look through once the game has been joined. As a GM I also like to bring my lively personality(s) to the table by doing fun voices for each character. The Role-playing and acting is what makes DnD so much fun as everyone has to have a certain amount of vulnerability to truly embrace the game. I don't require voices from my players but I do require enthusiasm and engagement! Also while this is an introductory adventure and I will be trying to stick to Rules as Written as much as possible to help you learn the base system, the Rule of Cool is an integral part of DnD. The Rule of Cool basically states that if a player has an idea that does not conform to the rules as specified, something outside of the foresight of WoTC, that I as the DM am allowed to figure out a way to rule that situation or action in a way that is fair to the game and rules already in place. This is hard to describe without and example at the ready, but what this boils down to is I want you as players to think beyond the page and rules that are provided to you and find interesting and creative solutions the problems I present. If this means bending the rules of making new ones up, that is part of the fun.

Gameplay details

The Safety tools I will be using are all best discussed within session 0. What I mean by this is that the tools I have selected I will be using in my game are what I find I do on a regular basis in my current/personal games already. During session 0 is the best time to have an open discussion and get everyone opinions on what is wanted in the campaign. My goal is to make sure everyone feels safe at my table, so having direct input into what is and what is not allowed at the table is critical.

How will character creation work

*If this all seems too much I am able to create a character for you (pre-generating) As an introductory campaign I want to take special time to help everyone create their characters. This will take place during our session zero. Feel free to look up the process on your own and please come to the table with an idea for your adventurer. You do not need to be familiar with the exact rules or labels for what your character will be, as I will help each player to create their first character sheet. The most important thing is to have an idea for who you want your character to be. The most important points to have ideas for are as follows: How do they fight or solve their problems? With magic, weapons, words, deception, etc. Looking into the different DnD 5e "Classes" will help with this. What is their Alignment? Evil vs. Good and Lawful vs. Chaotic What makes your character unique? Backstory, Flaws, Lineage, etc.
