About the adventure
CAPTURED BY MIND FLAYERS! You wouldn't wish this fate upon anyone, yet here you are—locked in a cell, the heavy weight of alien metal tight around your throat and wrists. You are not alone. Other prisoners are trapped here with you, in what was once a drow outpost now turned into an illithid colony. And it's only a matter of time before your brain is on the dinner plate like the rest of the drow. You must figure out a way to escape, and warn the denizens of the Underdark of this terrible threat. But in doing so, you learn of a far greater threat to the Underdark... the Far Realm is invading. Eldritch horrors stalk the shadows, myconid colonies are infected by alien spores, and Great Old Ones wait to cross over into our world. Will you be the ones to save the Underdark from utter madness? Or will it consume you? This is a version of Out of the Abyss where instead of fighting the forces of Demon Lords, the group face the spawns of Great Old Ones. I have run this version before and it's a lot of fun, especially if you enjoy the Cthulhu mythos. Due to the increased danger and threats faced, this game also starts at level 8 and ends at level 20.

How to prepare
Players need a working mic and access to a computer. The game will be held over discord and roll20, so you will need an account on both. Players will need to make their character sheet ahead of time in roll20 or dndbeyond. If dndbeyond, they will need to have the chrome extension beyond20.
What I provide
If you play with me, you'll be playing with one of the most recommended dms on the site, as well as one of the most experienced dms for balancing high level play in 5e. I use unique monsters, strategies, and my vast experience to truly deliver an amazing game. If you love combat, this is the game for you! I work hard to provide an immersive online experience for my players. I use music and soundscapes to set the mood. I use imagery for theatre of the mind roleplay, and beautiful maps from various sources for combat and exploration. I am constantly improving my roll20 room with effects and visuals for you all to enjoy. I make sure to give everyone a chance for their character to shine, and play to their strengths and abilities. In my games you can expect challenging combat, great improvisation, and an immersive world to play in. I put player agency and involvement first, and I want to emphasize the fact that this game is a cooperative environment between myself and the players. I run my games RAW, or rules as written. I have one homebrew rule, and that's you can bonus action drink a potion.

This game uses safety tools. There will be no sexual assault, homophobia, or transphobia in my games. Content warnings: cosmic horror, horror, demons, far realm entities, transformations, madness/sanity effects, stress effects, underground/caves, strange magic.

How will character creation work
Character creation will be done before the game. If you can create your character sheet on roll20 that would be the best, but I also accept Dndbeyond sheets that can be linked to roll20. Character creation rules: Level 8 Standard Array or Point buy (27) (No rolling for stats) Sourcebooks allowed: Dungeon Master's Guide, Player's Handbook, Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons, Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes, Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide, Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, Volo’s Guide to Monsters, Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft, Monsters of the Multiverse, Glory of the Giant, Book of Many Things Magic items: Allowed from the sourcebooks above 3 rare 3 uncommon banned items: broom of flying, adamantine armor, mizzium armor, horns of valhalla, guardian emblem, deck of wonder, plate of knight's fellowship, fate dealer's deck You will start out with 5000gp and can buy mundane items from the PHB and the following potions and scrolls: Healing- 50gp /// Climbing- 75gp /// Animal Friendship- 100gp /// greater healing- 100gp /// water breathing- 100gp /// superior healing- 500gp /// supreme healing- 1000gp Cantrip- 25gp /// 1st- 75gp /// 2nd- 150gp /// 3rd- 300gp /// 4th- 500gp /// 5th- 1000gp This adventure starts with all of your magic items having been taken away from you.
