About the adventure

"Out of the Abyss" is an immersive DND campaign set in the treacherous and dark Underdark of the Forgotten Realms. The adventure begins with an ominous twist as the players find themselves captive prisoners in a drow outpost. To survive and escape, they must unite, drawing on each other's strengths, and navigate through the perilous tunnels and caverns. Once free, the players discover an even greater threat looming—the Demon Lords, ancient demonic entities wreaking havoc in the Underdark, with the potential to unleash chaos upon the surface world. As unlikely heroes, the characters must confront sinister creatures like drow, mind flayers, and duergar, forging alliances and facing difficult choices along the way. The journey in "Out of the Abyss" is not merely about combat; it's a test of character, self-discovery, and camaraderie. As players progress, they grow in strength, gaining new abilities, and shaping their own unique stories within the epic narrative. Facing unimaginable odds, players must delve deep into the darkness, battling inner demons as well as external threats. The fate of the world rests upon their shoulders, and hope is their only weapon against despair. Are you prepared to venture into the depths, confront the darkness, and emerge as heroes in the face of an impending cataclysm in Out of the Abyss? The challenge awaits, and the world's destiny hangs in the balance.

How to prepare

They will need a decent mic, as long as it isn't loud and incredibly disruptive, it's okay. You will need Discord, and a Roll20 account. In addition, it is encouraged that you use DND Beyond to make your character, though you can also use Roll20, if you prefer. I will contact any players about any further character details beyond the normal.

What I provide

I will be helping incorporate all of your characters, their backstories, their goals, and everything in between. Additionally, I will be able to use my MidJourney account to make an AI generated art profile for your character if you wish, I will simply need any description you want, and will put the prompt in until you're satisfied with the product. After five sessions in a row, I will offer anyone who's interested a commissioned art by a professional artist that they can use for their character. And finally, after 10 sessions with the group, I can either design a Hero Forge mini for you, which I will mail to you for completely free, or if you have your own design for your character, I will pay for it and mail it to you as well.

Gameplay details

In session zero we will go over any sensitivities any players have in regards to certain topics, as well as what kind of game the group would most enjoy. All rules and home rules will be discussed and agreed upon among the group. The game has tough enemies, difficult puzzles, and is on the grimdark end of DND adventures. As a result, I would warn beginners against playing- unless they really love a challenge. I will always work with new players to play the best game they can. The game will be role play and exploration heavy, with an emphasis on problem-solving and quick-thinking. Combat will be quick, engaging and dynamic.

How will character creation work

Players start Out of the Abyss at level one. Any official material in any WOTC books are accepted, and any Unearthed Arcana material or homebrew material must be checked with me before it is added to their character. I am very lenient, and want players to live out the fantasy they most want to live out with their characters. I am not afraid to make characters a little bit strong(nor am I afraid to adjust my enemies accordingly ;)).

Players can expect

  • Combat/Tactics: Medium
  • Roleplay: High
  • Puzzles: Medium
  • Experience Level: Intermediate
