A Deep and Creeping Darkness - A Candlekeep Mysteries One-Shot

About the adventure

You have been approached by an elderly sister and brother who ask you to help solve the mystery of the demise of their mothers when they were very young children and, if possible, to recover their birthright; a highly productive platinum mine. To accomplish this, you will have to travel to a remote, abandoned mining town and uncover the dark secret that led to the demise of, not only your employers' parents, but dozens of miners and other townsfolk, leaving the town desolate and, it is rumored, cursed. Your only clue is a mysterious book that describes a terrible disaster followed by mysterious disappearances, told from the point of view of refugees in a nearby town. This is a level 4 adventure Dungeons and Dragons Adventure written by Sarah Madsen for the Candlekeep Mysteries anthology.

How to prepare

Bring your 4th-level character - (On DnDBeyond, SRD official races and classes only. Standard equipment + 1 common magic item or potion. Standard array for abilities.) A decent headset with a mic and your own dice or use DnDBeyond's electronic dice roller. A webcam is helpful, but not required.

Gameplay details

All of my games are PG-13 and themes of rape, child abuse and explicit sexual activity are not permitted in my games. Games do tend to include moderately graphic depictions of violence, kidnapping, possession/loss of autonomy, attacks by various animals including spiders, wolves, rats, snakes and flying creatures. Threats of death, injury or entrapment involving underground spaces, water and collapsing buildings may also be portrayed. If any of these situations cause you discomfort, please let me know ahead of time or use your option to PAUSE the game if you become uncomfortable at any time. It is my intention to create a safe, enjoyable and welcoming table for all.

How will character creation work

Create your 4th level character on DnDBeyond using standard array. Choose basic equipment plus 1 common magic item OR potion. You will be sent a link to the DnDBeyond campaign as soon as your registration is confirmed.

Players can expect

• Find a game to join solo or search for a professional game master for you and your friends/coworkers/family.
• Book your session and wait for the Game Master to approve you.
• If you don't have a blast with your first game, your next game is on us.
