About the adventure

Perhaps the most tragic aspect was the loss to the world of Community Theatre... Malcolm's breakout debut as Jean Valjean in last summer's production of Les Mis was considered by many to be a revelation. Expectations for his turn as the lead in this year's Sesquarcentennial Pageant were high. His onstage spontaneous combustion during the first dress rehearsal took the town of Dunnsmouth by surprise (to say the least!), but it was only the beginning... CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH ELDER THINGS is an introductory Monster Of The Week one-shot mystery. Players will be investigating a string of increasingly ghastly deaths centered around the 350th Anniversary of a New England town with a strange history of witch trials, bizarre cults, eldritch horrors, and temporal dislocations. This game is open to everyone - no experience with TTRPGs necessary. If you want to have fun playing modern-day monster hunters investigating supernatural mysteries (Think Supernatural, Buffy/Angel, X-Files, etc.) or you just have a love for Lovecraft and cheesy 70's Horror references, this is the game for you! If all goes well, we can turn this into a campaign!

How to prepare

You'll need the following: A computer or laptop. Cellphones will not accommodate the websites we use. A camera so that we can see you. A mic so we can hear you. Internet Access. An imagination and the willingness to have fun. Everything else will be provided. You roll your own dice (two normal six-sided) or there are digital dice on the website you can use.

What I provide

I have form-fillable PDFs to track your characters, digital maps, tokens, visual aids, digital dice-roller, and everything else we need to play. I bring 30 years of experience GMing games, and a safe, open environment where you can learn to play a great RPG and meet new people!

Gameplay details

MONSTER OF THE WEEK is a fun, easy-to-learn RPG that produces the kind of exciting, story-driven sessions you see on TV, Twitch streams, and podcasts. All you have to do is describe what your character is doing, and a roll of the dice tells you the outcome! No experience with RPGs is necessary, and you don't need to get bogged down in complex character sheets and rules minutia. The ultimate RPG for beginners (but even long-time players love it!)

How will character creation work

Before play, you'll pick a fillable Playbook PDF and download it from here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/16tC4FOEWnmnjLQncZa5NpJr9fUM6g7Qc?usp=sharing You can edit the PDF, choosing your stats and powers, or wait until we start playing to do that. We'll spend the first 15-20 minutes of the game determining how your characters know each other using the questions found in the playbooks, and making sure everyone is on the same page. You won't need to do anything else but follow the links I send you before the game. Everything else we'll do together!
