About the adventure

St. Midnight is a city that has it all: Promise, prosperity, and potential are what draw people to this town. Gold glitters, but so does blood circling a storm drain when cast in the right light. The best adventures in St. Midnight are the ones you make yourself. St. Midnight is a high fantasy/noir setting for Dungons & Dragons 5e, where there's always something that needs doing as long as you're enterprising enough. Anyone with a dream or an empty coin purse can find their way here, but not everyone finds their way out. This setting is fit for all play styles: people looking to start new characters looking for work, established characters looking for opportunity, a character who has lived here and gets roped into the lives of passing adventurers, and anyone who wants to try and make their mark on a city are all welcome. Here, you can investigate to your heart's content, or maybe join up with one of the less legal factions and carve out your own niche. What happens in St. Midnight, stays in St. Midnight.

How to prepare

A microphone is necessary and a webcam is encouraged. I find that a webcam helps convey body language as well as assisting in making sure that no one consistently gets talked over. Having discord is preferable but I can also run sessions over Zoom. A roll20 account is a must for dungeon exploration and combat. I also request that a notebook be brought so that notes can be taken throughout the session.

What I provide

For this game, I will be generating custom maps when they are needed (dungeon crawling and combat, mostly.) I have access to most of the current 5e material but I use a number of online sources to rule check when it's necessary. I focus on narration and roleplay rather than hard mechanics and tend to favor the Rule of Cool over anything else. I love to see players thrive and take chances. I'm not here to defeat or kill you, so don't be afraid to make a wild choice in the moment. I do my best with character voices and I also encourage you to do the same!

Gameplay details

Lines and Veils as well as discussions of triggering content will be held in Session 0 so that everyone has a chance to make a character that they are not only satisfied with, but other people are comfortable engaging with. When breaks happen, I like to go around the table and make sure that everyone is doing well, that they're having fun and to get assurances that everyone is being heard. After the session, I love to solicit for feedback and I try and highlight contributions! As always, I am available after sessions as well if someone feels they want to voice a concern privately!

How will character creation work

For character creation, I like to have all participants decide ahead of time what they're going to be playing so that it favors cooperation and balance. Character concepts can be worked on solo, but stat generation is done with the group. I tend to favor rolling 4D6 and drop the lowest number for stat generation but I am not against rerolls if a character just does not seem viable. All of this will be done in Session 0 so everyone can have a hand in the creation of the party.
