About the adventure

Set in the Sword Coast north, the Sword Mountains attracted prospectors long ago looking to strike it rich. The dwarves of Phandelver were the most successful, but war buried their greatest mine beneath mountainous rubble hundreds of years ago. Now, though, the lost mines of Phandelver have been rediscovered, but unlocking its ancient secrets may prove dangerous, and others looking to obtain them have less than pure intentions. This module is great for beginners and veterans alike! I have run it multiple times and it's very different every time. It also goes up to level 5, so the adventurers who make it through can be brought into another module like Curse of Strahd, Descent into Avernus, Rime of the Frost Maiden, or even something homebrew we can create together!

Additional Details

How to prepare

D&D is only worth it to the personally invested, but that said, a person who is personally invested should be able to pick up the rules pretty quickly. A Webcam and mic are necessary. Roll20 has its own dice rolling system, and we can make characters either on that site using their 5E character sheets or players can use their own.

What I provide

It's all virtual, so maps, dice, character sheets, and even art can all be obtained there.

Gameplay details

This game has a good balance between combat and roleplay, though it's easier to avoid the roleplay than the combat. There are good battle maps available for the whole module, and we can use art found online for characters, monsters, etc. We'll be playing on roll20.com, so I'll expect to teach anyone who doesn't know how to use it the ropes on that as well. It's very easy!

How will character creation work

We'll make level 1 characters together, and attempt to tie together backstories. We'll go through each section of the character sheets, starting with rolling stats. As I advance as a DM I'll expect to get all the online versions of the books, but for now having access to the Players Handbook will be a requirement for all incoming players.

Players can expect

  • Combat/Tactics: Medium
  • Roleplay: Medium
  • Puzzles: Low
  • Experience Level: Beginner
