How to prepare

Players should at least read the basic rules found on the Dungeons and Dragons website, although it is not required. Just know that D&D is a game that you get more out of, the more you put into it. So the more prepared you are the more fun it'll be! You will need both a Roll20 Account and Zoom account. Dnd Beyond is welcome!

What I provide

We will be using Roll20 which includes the entire module, illustrations, digital maps, notes, and monster tokens. In addition, I bring my own set of dice and core rulebooks. Everything you need for a full gaming experience.

What else should you know

I come from an extensive theatre, improv, and film background. Therefore my style of gameplay is based in collaborative storytelling, which means we're all responsible for how the narrative turns out. This means that there should be a basic understanding that the game is meant for everyone participating. So being respectful, kind, and courteous is a must. In addition, I am teacher by trade and have taught the game to many people over the years. I know it can quickly become intimidating, but know that with me you're in good hands.

Gameplay Details

Taking place in the magical world of the Forgotten Realms, Lost Mines of Pandelver serves as the perfect introduction to both the D&D 5th Editions rules, game, and lore. Players will build personalized characters that possess their own agency, style of gameplay, and purpose in the world. The game will be adapted from the player character choices and personal preferences. In other words, this game will be customized for the group and specified to fit their narrative contributions/play style. The game will follow a traditional style of gameplay where the players take on the role of adventurers. There will be a balance of roleplaying elements, riddles and puzzles, and challenging yet fair combat encounters. The game will focus heavily on narrative to create a personalized story with the player characters driving the action. If you're looking for a game to enjoy with your friends and gain experience playing, then this is the game for you! Although the module only takes place from level 1 to 5, there will be opportunity to continue if the groups so chooses.

How Will Character Creation Work

Characters will begin at level 1 and will use the Players Handbook. The first session will be set up for building characters and having a session zero. This allows the players to ease into their characters and learn more about them before beginning the actual adventure. It also allows for me as the DM to better understand who you are as a player and who your character is in the world. This in turn allows me to better adapt the story to fit the collective needs of the group. Writing a short background is helpful too. Even if you don't know what class, race, or background you want to play, it is good to have a general idea of the kind of character you'd like to take on. Players can either roll for the ability scores or use standard array. If the group prefers to play pre-generated characters that can also be arranged.
