About the adventure

Lost Mine of Phandelver - Episode I is a rescue adventure full of action and the opportunity for heroism. Players will have a clear objective, but multiple paths exist to accomplishing the goal. Roleplay, quick-thinking, cleverness and force (be it with spell or blade) will help overcome the challenges ahead. This adventure is adapted from the Lost Mine of Phandelver Starter Set. Even if you've played that campaign before, this one-shot has some home brewed twists bound to make it fresh and enjoyable. If you haven't played Lost Mine of Phandelver before, or are fairly new to D&D 5e, this is an excellent entry point.

Additional Details

How to prepare

For gameplay, we’ll be using Roll20. You can set up a free account if you don’t already have one. Pregen characters will be available, or you can make your own either in Roll20 itself or on DND Beyond. If using DND Beyond, you’ll need the Beyond20 browser extension to import your rolls. Characters should be level 2 for this one-shot. Bring your willingness to get lost in the fantasy. Tabletop games are a great way to tell a story together, and if you're willing to dive in, I all but guarantee a good time. Mechanically, you'll need your computer, an internet connection, a microphone and speakers.

What I provide

I bring a Roll20 subscription that features dynamic lighting and all the maps and other assets for an immersive game. Music will be provided to help increase that level of immersion.

Gameplay details

You can expect a high level of combat, medium level of roleplay, and a low level of puzzles/exploration. The session is designed for players of all experience levels, so please don’t feel self conscious about not knowing a rule or how a certain mechanic works. There are a couple house rules in effect. If someone gets knocked unconscious, Death Saving throws are DC 12 instead of DC 10, but you get to add in your Constitution modifier. When you come to, you’ll suffer one level of Exhaustion. Also, I have a set of Critical Hit and Critical Miss cards to use for combat. These cards only apply player attacks, not monster attacks.

How will character creation work

Any official 5e content may be used for character creation. Characters should be level 2. If using DND Beyond, please have the Beyond 20 browster extension installed. Otherwise, you can build your character directly in Roll20 if you wish. Pregens are available if that interests you.

Players can expect

  • Combat/Tactics: High
  • Roleplay: Medium
  • Puzzles: Low
  • Experience Level: Open to all
