About the adventure

A mysterious message. A meeting in the mists. A house, eerie and warped. The House of Lament has long stood abandoned, holding close its secrets from those who would pry into its depths. You are an adventurer—bold and skilled—but can you and your companions successfully solve the mystery of this ancient manor, or will you fail and join the bones of countless others who have attempted to explore this dark edifice? *** Have you always wanted to learn how to play Dungeons & Dragons, but you haven't had the opportunity? Now is your chance! In this one-shot haunted house adventure, you will learn the ins and outs of D&D, including all the basic rules, lingo, and roleplaying tips you'll need to be able to drop into any D&D game. Strap on your sword, grab your spellbook, and get ready for things to get spOoOoky...

How to prepare

We'll be playing virtually, so all you'll need is a webcam/mic, good internet connection, and a willingness to engage with the story and your fellow players. I will provide a Google Calendar invite with a Zoom link for the game a few days in advance. We'll also be using a popular browser-based tabletop called Owlbear Rodeo for maps and dice—no sign-in or registration is required, so I'll send out the link to that and provide a tour of how it works as the game begins!

What I provide

As the Game Master (GM), I provide the world, the adventure, the supporting cast of characters, some visuals & sounds, and (most importantly) the space for all of us to create a gripping story together. I'm excited to find out how that story ends!

Gameplay details

This game contains light horror elements, mostly around common "haunted house" tropes. We'll be using the X-Card safety tool, by which any player can indicate that the game has erred into potentially triggering content. If the X-Card is invoked, we'll take a pause, discuss what needs to change, and resume the game with the appropriate edits.

How will character creation work

Characters will be provided in advance, so we'll be able to skip past character creation and dive right into the story on the evening of our D&D session. When you sign up for the game, I'll reach out to you with a link to a Google Drive folder filled with character sheets (files listing each adventurer's characteristics and abilities). Choice of characters is on a first-come, first-served basis!
