About the adventure

Are you curious about Dungeons and Dragons, but you're not sure you can commit to play 3 hours every week from now till forever? Want to give it a try without any pressure? This is a 2-hour tutorial for people who have never played D&D. We start at the very beginning, demonstrate how D&D works and why it's so much fun. We'll cover the basics of D&D 5th Edition including: * Why so many dice? When, how and why we roll: ability checks, saving throws, and attack rolls * Ability scores: why are they so weird? * Proficiency, tools, etc * Hit Points, Short Rests and Long Rests * Battling Monsters: pure imagination or miniatures on a table I teach by doing. I will walk you through a simple adventure and demonstrate each idea in context, so you see how it works in a real game. I provide a selection of pre-made characters so you can just pick whatever interests you. I will give you some background on D&D and other games you might enjoy. I'll teach you the basics of online tools like Roll20 and Discord, plus the challenges and etiquette of online games. We'll talk about finding a game that's right for you.

In tabletop role-playing games each player controls one character in the story. We call this your player character or PC. Don't bring preconceived character ideas for this session. We will be using pre-generated characters, all you need to do is choose one that appeals to you.
