About the adventure

Have you ever thought about playing D&D but didn't know where to start? Or maybe you've played before but there are aspects of the game (mechanics, spells, combat, roleplaying) that you don't quite understand and want to improve your knowledge base. I'll help you get started on your path through the greatest roleplaying game. Playing D&D is an amazing experience: exploring the depths of forgotten dungeons, facing off against powerful foes, navigating treacherous territories. It's a wonderful outlet for your creativity and imagination and a great way to build your confidence and make friends. In this learning session, I'll go over: -Character Creation -What makes a good Player & a good DM -How to Roleplay -Basic Game Mechanics Plus a short adventure at the end to get you into the game itself with some practical combat and exploration experience. You won't be a master at the end of just one game, but you'll be well on your way to enjoying the best hobby there is.

Additional Details

How to prepare

You will need: -a Discord account -a working mic -a DnDBeyond account -a Forge VTT account -Beyond20 extension for your browser It sounds like a lot, but these accounts are all free and I will help you set up everything you need if you don't already have them. We'll get all of this taken care of before the session so you can jump right into the game.

What I provide

Everything on DnDBeyond (including all character creations options for Core and secondary DnD content). A Virtual Tabletop through Foundry for maps, gridded encounters, handouts, and other resources. And most importantly, a fun and welcoming environment for you to learn the basics of D&D!

Gameplay details

The game session will be conducted through Discord for voice chat, and the Foundry VTT for maps and other resources. I will help you get set up on those platforms if you are not already familiar with them. The adventure we will run will be the first chapter of Lost Mines of Phandelver, which is the introductory campaign for 5th Edition DnD. This game contains fantasy violence. You are welcome to prepare a Level 1 Character beforehand, but it is not required and I will provide a Starter character for anyone who has not made a character before. Roleplaying does not require voice acting. We'll go over the details in the session, but don't feel intimidated by not having a "voice" for your character, that is not required. For content considerations, we will use the Lines and Veils system. There are some things that I have zero tolerance for such as: hate, bullying, sexual harassment, or any kind of discrimination. My table is a safe space. Any content that you have concerns about will be handled by Lines (does not appear in game at all) and Veils (hinted at, but not described in detail). I also have an Open Door policy for all games that I run. You can speak with me at any time and expect your voice to be heard.

How will character creation work

We will work together to teach you how to create a Level 1 Character. You are welcome to create a character beforehand, but I will have characters prepared for you to use. Characters will be created on DnDBeyond. I provide all of the resources, so you will only need to create a free account if you don't already have one.
