LANCER: The Naboor Conflict

Lancer on Discord, Roll20

About the adventure

SecComm and the imperialist Union of old fell long ago, sending the galaxy into discord. The modern ThirdComm runs a post-scarcity Utopia, a more modern Union where all of society's problems are solved. Bold agendas and inclusive politics have created a bold new world. You are not there. Outside of the confines of the Cradle and core Galactic worlds, there are corpro-states, pirates, and various other deeply complicated problems that don't believe in the Three Pillars of Utopia that are central to the Union's operation: 1 - All shall have their material needs fulfilled, 2 - No walls shall stand between worlds, and 3 - No human shall be held in bondage through Force, Labor, or Debt. And suddenly that's all very important. You've been hired to work with a Union diplomatic envoy to Naboor, a planet on the edge of space with the Karrakin Trade Baronies. While the Karrakin Trade Baronies are technically members of the Union, they are also an imperial power made of a vast nobility. Baron Blade of the House of Fire wants Naboor to be part of his property in order to "give his territory a proper shape." Vestigial nobility are crazy, aren't they? More importantly, "The Monte Cristo Trading Company", a minor corpro state has been waving bills at the system government of Naboor, saying that they're in debt as part of multiple trade disputes. While Naboor is not technically a member of the Union, the Karrakin Trade Baronies are, and they're in range, and some kind of malfeasance seems to be occurring here. You're part of a small Union Department of Justice and Human Rights diplomatic team sent in to short circuit this whole mess before it escalates further: Naboor wants to join the Union on its own terms, as opposed to Baron Blade's, and that would solve all of their problems and fulfill the 3 pillars. They have a debt problem caused by mistakes involving unfettered capitalism, but it's something that they might be able to fix as part of the cost of membership. Representative Descartes is leading the team, and thinks this is all some misunderstanding involving ancient documentation on a cosmic scale. Colonel Winters, leader of the military detachment, think that it's something much more sinister. Regardless, the good Corvette "Blore's Razor" is speeding to Naboor. You may simply be a member of the fact finding team representing some uncommon role, but one thing that every single member of the party has in common is this: you're all lancers with basic training. And as Colonel Winters puts you all on standby to deploy regardless of your background, it occurs to you: that shiny Everest you keep in the mech bay might just be the only thing you can count on when all this starts.
