About the adventure

"All right, all right, all right. Let's see what we've got... Kobolds, bring a sword!" This is Knights Gambit, a loose adaptation of the popular videogame mode Gambit in Destiny 2. It is a D&D experience like no other, featuring PVE, PVP, role selecting, boss fights, and more. This is meant to be a single session, but if the fight goes on for too long, a second free session will be scheduled to finish the game. Mechanics of the game covered in a later note.

Additional Details

How to prepare

Players will need a mic, camera not required. This will be a combat and tactics heavy game, so it is recommended that players know the rules of combat for D&D 5e, or at least the ones they will need for their character(s). It can also be helpful to watch a video on Destiny 2's Gambit game mode, to better understand how this game will work.

What I provide

Upon victory (and defeat), players will receive a cool certificate customized with their character's name, gambit role, and their victory or their defeat.

Gameplay details

Knights Gambit takes the rules from Destiny's Gambit and adapts them to the D&D 5e system. Players are split into two teams that will be competing against each other. Once the teams are formed, each player selects an artifact - a magic item that gives them a bonus towards certain gameplay aspects. Kill, Collect, Bank, Slay. The teams are spawned into parallel maps, each with 3 main zones. Monsters will begin to spawn in these zones. Upon killing a creature, they will drop a mote - a crystal of pure magic. Collect these motes, and then bring them to the bank where your team began. Bank enough motes, and your team will summon the Primeval, a huge boss monster. Take it down, and your team wins. Banking motes of certain values also spawns Bank Guards on the other team's side. The bank can't be accessed until the guards are defeated, so banking some motes can stall your foes. At certain intervals, a portal will open next to the bank. Hop in it and you invade the other team's side as a Knight. Playing as this monster of a fighter, you get to charge out and try to hunt down the enemy team players. Act fast though, as you are limited to only a few rounds of this power. Death in gambit is not permanent! If you should fall in battle, you will respawn shortly after in a safe location on the map. You will not possess your full power, so use those big spells wisely.

How will character creation work

Players should come to the table with one, if not a few, characters ready. The characters should be level 5, using standard array and only official WOTC published material. Each player will also be allowed to choose one uncommon magic item to bring as well.

Players can expect

  • Combat/Tactics: High
  • Roleplay: Low
  • Puzzles: Low
  • Experience Level: Intermediate
